What's the task you like doing most on the job?
ABG's...I love when I nail it on the first stick and don't have to fish around!
-
Why are ICU nurses so rude?
I tape a tongue depressor to the side of the bed to organize all my 1,234,862 lines on. It looks much more orderly and keeps them from getting all tangled up. Most of the nurses in my ICU do this. As for the rest, there are bad apples in every bunch. Ignore it and move on.

To all Night Nurses:
Thank you!!
-
Nurse/patient ratio in ICU...what is yours?
We are 2:1. We are a small, community hospital as well, with a 12 bed ICU.
-
Thoughts on Christmas scrubs...Yea or no way?
I wouldn 't wear them because I don't feel they look very professional. I feel as if they are only appropriate in certain environments and adult acute care isn't one of them.
-
What do you wear to class?
Regular clothes. We only wear scrubs on clinical days. Class days I usually wear jeans and a nice top.
-
How do you wear your hair for work?
I have hair to the middle of my back. I where it in either a ponytail or twist it up into a bun. It takes about 5 seconds...I love it!!
-
Are grades in your school shared?
The instructors don't share grades with the class, but some of us share with each other. I'm usually pretty vague with people and will only say, "I did ok." That usually satisfies people. A group of us friends always share our grades, though. I guess it depends on who asks me!!

No She/he Did Not!!!
I seriously laughed out loud at that one!
-
M.R.S.A or mersa?
mersa --- American

if u had to choose another career in healthcare besides nursing, what would it be?
Pediatric Oncologist

Do you go out on the weekend?
I usually do not study on the weekends. Our exams are on Fridays, as well as care plans being due on Fridays. That leaves the weekends free to spend with my family. I may read over some material after the kids are in bed, but it isn't much. We all need a little down time. We deserve it! :)
- How many hours of sleep did you get a night when you were in nursing school?
-
Tomorrow....
Good luck tomorrow!! I'm a week into it now and it is pretty intense. Just stay on top of the readings and get yourself organized right away!! You'll do great. Congratulations!!

Random Thoughts: From a Nursing Student
Amen. STOP talking while the instructor is talking! It is rude and very distracting to those of us who are actually listening!

The First Days of Nursing School by the Fall 2009ers!!!
I just started Monday!!! Get organized immediately!!! I can see how it could be very easy in the first weeks to fall behind if you don't set up a system for yourself. Notebooks, highliters, planners....whatever. Get organized the first night. Write everything down. There is so much and it can make you feel overwhelmed and scatterbrained, but if you take the time to really organize yourself it will pay off big time down the road!! Good luck to all my fellow students embarking on this journey! :heartbeat
-
Age you will/were graduated?
I will be 32 when I graduate with my ADN. Better late than never!!
-
Students not working while going to school....
:yeahthat:

How do you wear your hair for clinicals?
Since we aren't allowed to have our hair in a ponytail for clinical I plan on putting it up in a bun. It takes me 10 seconds and looks professional...score!

Any runners???
I love running! I have found its the only exercise that really keeps me lean and toned. I feel so good after a good run. I listen to my ipod and use that time for not only my physical health, but my mental health as well. Just start off slow and set mini goals for yourself. You'll be amazed at how quickly your body will snap back into shape! Good luck!

Who is still waiting on admissions notifications?
Thankfully we found out mid-February. I'd be climbing the walls having to wait this long. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear!!
-
Does "your" instead of "you're" drive anyone else nuts?
Yes, yes, and yes! I am a nut for proper speaking and writing, though. One of my biggest pet peeves is the use of double negatives : "I ain't got no money." AHHHH!!! It makes me want to pull my hair out! :chuckle

Are there any future nursing professors out there?
I would love to teach someday. I plan on working for a while (like 20 years), while going back to school to get my advanced degrees. Then when I am unable to work the floor for whatever reason (mental or physical exhaustion) I would love to teach at a university. I wouldn't teach here at my community college because we are military and won't be living here much longer. It is definitely a long-term goal, though!

should patients be able to choose to end their life if they are in pain and dying
I am 100% for assisted suicide. After watching my grandmother die from cancer, slowly withering away to nothing, the last few weeks so doped up on morphine she had no idea she was even alive...I would have gladly helped her out of her misery into eternal peace. I wouldn't feel as though I had a stain on my soul or guilty in the slightest. I feel it is humane, and I feel it would be out of love. If a person would rather die with all their wits about them instead of lingering and withering away for months, so high on morphine they cannot form a coherent thought, that should be THEIR choice. And I am all for it. Cancer is a nasty, horrible animal. I don't wish it on anyone.
