  1. The Hospitalist Movement: The Quiet Revolution In Healthcare

I am an agency nurse and I have worked at a couple of hospitals that utilize hospitalists. I find that I like the system. It's nice knowing the hospitalist (or the one covering for him/her) is in house at all times. I've run into situations and call...
  2. IV starts

VERY, Very few. Most of the time, by the time they are in the hospital, they are sick enough that the veins disappear. Keep with it though. IV's become easier with each one you do. J.
  3. You know it is going to be the admission from hell when.....

AMEN!!!!!!!!! I work nights and I just love these kind of orders. I take evil delight in waking the doctor up to ask for more pain meds as the patient is screaming. :roll Jacki
  4. So, who else has to work over xmas/new year?

I am working Christmas Eve and Christmas Day night shifts (11-7) and am off New Years eve and work New Years Day 11-7. Since my kids are older and don't do the Santa thing anymore, I figured the time and a half will come in handy. I am agency so tim...
  5. Just a question?

I had a chance about 2 years ago to work baylor in the ER that I worked in at the time. Fri and Sat 7P to 7A and get paid for 36. I wanted it so bad. Tried to talk hubby into it. He was adamant. NO WAY. He works Mon-Fri days and decided we wou...
  6. R these 4 REAL????

I've worked at places that have something called a Critical Incident Stress Debriefing. The powers that be organize it after something particularly hard to deal with happens. For example: A couple of years ago, two days before Christmas, there wa...
  7. Where to get scrubs???

Try Ebay. They have brand new scrubs, used scrubs and custom made scrubs. And a lot of the time they are cheaper than the scrub stores. Jacki
  8. I agree with 3rdShiftGuy about the inexactness (is that a word?) of psych. I was not fond of psych in school and knew that I wouldn't want to work psych afterwards. I have a problem dealing with psych patients. In the rational portion of my brain...
  9. MD's and Code status

Hi All, I am fairly new to this BB so I don't know if you've all covered this one before but here goes. I get SO frustrated:( with the physicians and how they determine a patient's code status. I have never heard a physician go into any detail with...
  10. help with organizational skills

Yippie, I have been a nurse for 6 years and still find it helps to have a form (one I've made up) that keeps track of who my patients are, what their diagnosis is, what meds are due when, what labs, ekg's, weights, i&o's etc are due. I find this ...
  11. Treatment of Agency Staff

I have been agency for 1 1/2 years. I have been treated very well at the 2 hospitals I have been at. The hospital I am currently at has been the best. Not only am I treated well, but I am extremely appreciated for my knowledge and experience. I w...
  12. Well I did it! I quit my regular job to go to agency.

I have worked for an agency for about 1 1/2 years. I love it. I contract hours through the agency. I generally get contracted for 40 hours a week. Contracted hours are nice because you won't get called off or cancelled. The facility has to pay t...
