Hi guys. I'm in charge of stocking our completely bare first aid kits. Any one care to share a list of recommended supplies with me? These kits will go to all of the group leaders and all will be...

  4. Anyone get a C in A&P?

I got a C in microbiology and am a practicing RN. I got initially wait listed for my program but got in within a few weeks
  5. I'm actually what I consider to be a polite psych patient. Having worked it for two years, I know the routine. I would ask for a PRN, question new meds, and read up on new meds or dosages. I'd let...
  6. Borderline personality disorder

Just remember, BPD is an illness just like the other PDs. It can be treated with therapy and your patients might be in therapy. Don't judge the patient by the label
  7. Tips to switch from nights to days??

I found that working 2 on 3 off consistently worked for me, no matter what shift I worked. I'd allow my first day off to compensate for sleep lost working whatever shift I was on.
  8. Nursing listed as 4th on a list of fun jobs.

I was just going to say this. This is why I loved being a psych
  9. Question about travel staffing and "shortage"

Hell, I know they're filling holes on my old unit with PRN staff or pulling staff from other units rather than allowing staffing from other units to use their PTO time. It's all about cutting costs....
  10. Question about travel staffing and "shortage"

i think it could also have to do with the fact that travel nurses don't go through as intensive orientation as new staff. That might be
  11. Delegation

I don't see why not. I taught my CNA students all of that and more. Just no IVs or anything
  12. Same thing here. Two weeks' notice
  13. Is taking 4 classes in the summer too much?

Oh dear lord! Summer classes are hard enough being accelerated and all, but an 11-credit course load? Unless you've done this before, I wouldn't recommend it. It sounds great to get that much out...
  14. Graduation gift for new nurse

I don't know if it's been posted already, but perhaps consider that a PDA might be outdated and spring for a smartphone, like a Blackberry or an I-Phone/I-Pod. There are tons of apps out there geared...
  15. Rant about licenses

Oooh imma piggy-back on this rant! I'm waiting to transfer my MD compact license to NJ, where they don't DO compact licenses. I'm doing a summer camp for 9 weeks. I just waited a week to get my...
  16. 2012 work thread

Are you familiar with Trailblazers Camp or are we not in the same
  17. 2012 work thread

I'll be at Trailblazers Camp in Northern NJ. This is my first year doing camp nursing. I've taught allied health to high schoolers for the past six months and was an adult inpatient psych nurse for...
  18. Psych Tech

I worked as a psych tech while in NS and I loved it. I'm a tiny little white girl and did just fine for myself. Most of my time was spent in the milieu with the patients observing behavior and...
  19. Camp nurse uniform

I might seek out a couple of plain navy scrub tops and get them embroidered with my name, RN and Camp . That's a good
  20. Prepping to leave for the summer... advice?

Oh goodness...I haven't started packing yet although I've got about 2 and a half weeks left. Coffee maker is a good idea that I hadn't thought of (though I *had* thought of a case of energy drinks)...
  21. My kids are done learning all of the material to be covered on their final, with 2 weeks left. They'll get a full day of review for their CNA examination, but now I've got them in lecture for 2 weeks...
  22. Camp nurse uniform

I just invested in some skorts and long khaki shorts. I was told that I can and should wear recognizable scrub tops too.
  23. Camp nurse uniform

Whew. That's a relief. I'm going to check with my camp director today but I can't imagine wearing pants all summer at camp, so your experience is valuable.
  24. New to camp nursing...former psych nurse

Thanks for the support. I guess I'm just worried about being so far from home (4.5 hours!) and have a little anxiety about homesickness
  25. I'm teaching lecture and skills to CNA students in a technical HS. They were learning primarily via computer lecture but now I'm being told to physically teach them skills. I have a class of 25...
