  1. Thank you. I am exhausted, things are slipping through the cracks, and i dont want to get in trouble for it. I was told not to do assessments, only ask about satisfaction with care! I have voiced my disagreements with this and was told that I am wrong and I am the reason why i'm overwhelmed! I am awaiting my state board to respond back to me so that i can give my employer proof in black and white. I was unable to find specifics in thr federal regs and thats what shes using as her rationale.
  2. Hi! I'm just trying to see something here. Has any of you ever case managed 30 home hospice patients with 4 LPNs? And if you do, how often are you required to perform a visit? If you do a visit, do you perform a full visit (full head to toe assessment).
  3. thanks. i will make sure i have a notepad handy. i'm also thinking about putting myself on a "schedule" so to speak, until i get into a habit of doing things the way i want them done.
  4. I don't think it's wise on her part to leave you guys for so long. Not to mention unprofessional with her tardiness. She is supposed to be setting an example. I just graduated and my CIs were always around. Except for one clinical that was just awful. She was afraid to let us do anything and we didn't learn jack, which is messed up for me b/c i didn't get that experience clinical gives and i have to learn the info on my own. But she's been fired and the following class have had a better experience without her. Maybe you can tell her that you'll need help doing something before she disappears and if that doesn't work she needs to be reported. And if being reported doesn't solve the problem or the school won't hear of it, it'll all be on her when a student does something wrong and she's nowhere around. Some people have to learn the hard way unfortunately.
  5. So 8 hours after my shift ends, i remember i forgot to chart some important info. i'm so worried that i will get into trouble. i think i'm going to have to go add the info tomorrow. today i just felt so rushed that at the end of shift i felt like i knew i forgot to do something. then BAM, it hits me in the wee hours of the am. Does this happen to anyone else?
  6. congrats! during my last clinicals, there was a new grad who didn't recieve a good orientation and was now on his own. i will be starting my first shift as a nurse next week and i know who my nurse will be and have already informed him that i will be asking questions. i feel like i know nothing about nursing when i get on the floor! school really is a totally different ball game and hospitals should take that into account before trying to make you take care of very sick patients when you are just starting out. Good Luck!
  7. How do people expect us as nurses to take care of patients and not take care of ourselves? I know how weak i get if i don't eat and guess what? I WILL find time to eat, even if i have to stuff it in my mouth and go. I WILL NOT kill myself trying to take care of others. How can i safely care for my patients with a distended bladder, bad back, and decreased level of consciousness b/c i haven't eaten or peed yet i'm working overtime? Though I'm not sure about how the OR works, you can be a nurse.
  8. these are funny! i'm sure i could probably look forward to updating on my latest verbal spoof.
  9. that after you said it, you wanted to disappear into thin air? i was asked a question today in class about hyperglycemia to which i said something to the effect of giving dexrose to treat it! wth was i thinking? at least i caught my spoof. i know better. tell me i'm not the only one who's done this:bugeyes:
  10. i'm a new graduate and i have been hired in our picu. i was a tech there for a year, so i got to see some interesting things. i've had the opportunity to help chart too and help care for stable patients. i haven't done a shift yet, but now i find myself worrying that i don't know enough as a new grad. i know that no one wakes up knowing how to do everything, it comes with time. i'm scared and looking forward to learning.
  11. wow, i'm really sorry to hear that. i'm a new graduate and i'm hoping to have a wonderful and fulfilling career ahead of me. although i can't say that i understand how you feel, i think if i found myself in the same situation i would be unhappy also. have you ever worked in peds? i'm asking b/c i enjoy working with kids and maybe this would be a good change for you. i think you are a great nurse and knowing how good you are but being ignored can be frustrating. :icon_hug:
  12. first off, congrats to you! i just graduated with my BSN but i started working as a nurse tech in the PICU. it will be a great experience. the only thing i didn't like was that at first, they wouldn't let me do anything. i would sit at work for hours doing nothing but asking questions and looking at the patients. but as i got further along in school, they let me start caring for the patients. you will learn a lot. i know i did. the only advice i'd give you now is to learn as much as you can about the equipment, illnesses that you will see, and observe any bedside procedures. i used to come home with notes on stuff to google. hopefully my transition to a new nurse in icu won't be as harsh.
  13. wow. these are truly some touching stories. i currently tech in a picu where i hope to work soon. so far, i've seen two babies die and several other children have died when i wasn't there. the babies are cleaned up and dressed in a white gown and carried to the morque via the nurse's arms. it takes a strong, yet caring person to do this kind of work on a daily basis. i'm glad i found this thread.
  14. Hello. i am less than 1 year from finishing nursing school. i would like to know if i'm the only one who can deal with anything but vomit! i haven't had to clean up a big mess yet but i'm not sure how i would handle that. I would be gagging all over the place. anybody else in my shoes? how can i get over this?
