  1. General Ed courses through Excelsior...

When did the EC exams get so expensive??? Yes, you can go EC for every single gen. ed. course you need. Another problem with publishing companies is that they can give you an idea of what generals you'll need, but it's not always completely accurate....
  2. Good/Bad LTC's for LPN job???

Beverly programs don't have a good reputation and I couldn't stand the one that I worked at years ago.
  3. Rue Excelsior independent study

  5. Rue Excelsior independent study

Oh PLEASE don't sign with RUE until you are 150% sure that it's the right thing for you to do. Do a search on this site and you'll find lots of opinions about RUE. I signed with them and was SO sorry that I did. PM me for details (probably more than ...
  6. HELP???passing a/p

I also used the A&P Cliff's Notes. I thought they were a great study tool. It's a tough exam but passable. Good luck to you!
  7. Are yahoo excelsior notes enough for exam?

Why the rush? These courses are very hard. Take more time so that the material sticks.
  8. transfer credits for LPN-> RN Excelsior

Just make sure that the A&P had enough credits. Mine didn't and I had to retake it. They can do an official transcript review for you. It used to be $50 (don't know what it is now) which they applied towards your enrollment once you enrolled. It...
  9. Excelsior study methods

I mostly used the books from my LPN program, plus a couple of NCLEX-RN books. I would use their content guide, which is a broad outline. To study I would make it into a giant, expanded outline, adding extra information to the parts I didn't know much...
  10. Are yahoo excelsior notes enough for exam?

Just remember, all of the "notes" that you find online were done by other people. If you want to cover your butt, and I'm sure you do, don't assume they are 100% accurate. Use them only as a study tool in addition to other ones.
  11. How to go directly through Excelsior

First of all, congratulations on getting out of the RUE contract! I'm so happy for you. My eyes were opened up too late. I paid for all of their crap and ended up just going through EC. They had incorrect answers and some spelling errors in their stu...
  12. 1 year vs 2 year LPN programs

Thanks for replying! So these are all the 2 year programs I assume?
  13. Hazelden Minnesota

I haven't heard anything about it being dual dx now but that would be pretty neat. There are several short term (90 day usually) residential tx facilities in the Twin Cities and some are dual dx. About a year and a half ago they required that there ...
  14. my encounter with a schizophrenic

I gotta laugh because this happens all the time to psych nurses. Sometimes things just come so out of the blue we walk out wondering "what the hell just happened here?" And of course, later we always think of ways we could've handled things different...
  15. my patient died...may i debrief here?

I'm sorry. It's tough losing a patient, especially one who struggles so much with a mental health issue that no one else can see on a scan or a test---only by their behaviors. I've lost a few and I always tell myself over and over that they are fi...
  16. What are some of the nicer hospitals in twin cities?

Yes they are. I looked into it a while back and was surprised at the pay.... it was lower than I thought it should be. Has it improved?
  17. What are some of the nicer hospitals in twin cities?

My husband has been working at United for 11 years. Apparently they have a new president and he is very well liked. He has lunch with employees and things like that. Maybe that'll shape things up.
  18. What are some of the nicer hospitals in twin cities?

I had my OB clinicals there and loved it.
  19. What are some of the nicer hospitals in twin cities?

I just had a baby there 2 weeks ago and all the staff I encountered were fabulous and seemed very happy.

  21. Excelsior nursing notes

No, she's really not. Take it from someone who was an EC student when a couple of people got busted for innocently "helping" other people.
  22. Passed the CPNE!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay!!! Congratulations! That is one hell of an experience, isn't it. :)
  23. Former St. Paul Tech folks part 2

Three things: know what you're doing, show her that you do know what you're doing, and kiss her a$$. It's unnerving and very stressful when instructors seem like they are playing head games with you, isn't it. I may know who you are talking about and...
  24. Roll Call for Excelsior Grads - stand up and be counted

    a. Your graduation date April 2003 b. Your best advice to someone starting the program (Listen up Wendy! :) Take a deep breath and dive in. Don't come up for air until you have swam through the program. It's SO HARD to go back down again once you'v...
