Oh sooooo many things I could say! *If you're so f'n smart why DON'T you go to med school?* to the nurse who truly does feel she is so much smarter than alllll the docs in the world. *Sure, take a little bit longer of a break or another break right n...
I would strongly suggest some counseling so you can talk to a unbiased, neutral person about how you feel in general and how you feel others perceive you. I LOVED my therapy sessions when I had them-it's like having an amazing friend who by LAW can't...

We don't let GPs do skin-to-skin unless there's reason for it. This is a moment for parents! With that being said, there have been cases where GPs are asked by parents to do it so we let them. It's rare!
We do heel sticks for 95% of our labs, then venous. We only do art sticks at time of admission since we need a bit of blood at that time and that's if no lines are being inserted. art sticks are a last resort for us!
I went to Iowa for nursing school and I LOVED IT. And getting into the Iowa College of Nursing is NOT easy so pat yourself on the back! (Name edited) will be AMAZING to work with, I still keep in contact with her! I got a FANTASTIC job after grad...
1) We encourage NNS as early as 30wks specially if only on Nasal Canula or room air. We encourage all moms and dads to do skin-to-skin care even when intubated as long as there is no UAC. We also provide infants with colostrum swabs as soon as we ca...
I'm not sure what the name of the program is but it comes up on interenet explorer and we add in the wt, name, DOB and update it every week. The print out is on bright orange paper and in the back of the chart, always easy to find.
This is totally right and there are stats out there to back it up. girls are stronger than boys and white boys are quite whimpy sometimes! We had a 23 4/7 wkr AA girl who was extubated by the time she was 26wks, and went home at 35 4/7wks! She was ...

I'm struggling with this myself. I knew years ago this was a hot topic when I had a "Meet the Dean" at my college of nursing and she warned us all! And sure enough, she was right! Now I am in a CNS program and debating on how I will do the DNP. I ...
We just got them hospital wide in December and at first I was a little hesitant. But now I LOVE them. We have been able to get pharmacy to be more accurate now too! Specially with our small volume meds since the pump is able to read the amt of drug...
they probably did do it before coming in, in fact I believe the OP did say the couple may have used this method to start labor. And while there may be other methods, I would much rather have sex than end up under a knife or with pitocin-induced cont...
I got sick during orientation, went to work anyway and was sent home because I also developed allergic reaction to medication that was prescribed. They totally understood-sick is sick! volunteering a doc's note will be helpful! But get back to work...
I pull PICC lines all the time but had to observe 3 times and show my skill 3 times before I could do it on my own. Nurses on my unit place PICCs after certification class that is offered through the hospital! I can't wait to take the class!

My net for last year was almost 60K. I've been working at the hospital for about four years and started as new BSN grad. After taxes and benefits are taken out my take home was 40K! Just keep this in mind new grads! And yes, most Chicago "magnet"...
You are actually getting some money for this? WOW! This is NOT unusual at all. We not only provide our own, but we have to change at the hospital and we share ONE locker room with Post Partum and L&D. On any given morning there are about 40 nu...
Yes, any insertion site regardless of PIV, PICC/PCVC or CVL MUST have an occlusive dressing over the site. And no, there shouldn't be a blanket between the light and the infant. Just the manuactured bili cover which is almost paper like. Also, if...

You shouldn't be required to take this kind of test w/o any prior experience in the NICU. This is a test given to travelers with experience. The list of things you have is great. Add to it, abdominal wall defects, Neural Tube defects, and drug wit...

It is, as far as I know way out of our scope unless there is NO ONE, including a paramedic able to intubate and there is an emergent need. RNs do NOT intubate in my unit. However I do believe some transport team RNs in some hospitals have been cert...

It's also to predict right now too because with the fluctuating economy it's hard to tell where "hiring" will go. For example, we have 12 unfilled RN positions in my unit. But we are not hiring anyone! It's cheaper to pay OT than it is to orient ...

GO TO NICU! You will most likely regret it if you go to an ortho floor! and getting a job in the NICU is tough. So if you have the opportunity go with it! You WILL have to find inner strength to deal with the heart breaking days. but those don't co...
Yes, we all want a perfect world out there but we aren't going to get it. Let's face it though, these parents are taking out their fear on us! I don't want to say "it's part of the job" but as part of nursing we all need to learn how to handle it. I...
THese are always tough situations. We also allow parents to stay in the room during report but we have large enough rooms we can move away. It's really not far for some parents who travel from far to have them leave the room. We are very careful w...

Keep in mind a few things: In order to carry out a task you need objective data. If all you have is subjective information, then your answer is most likely related to gathering more objective data. you can rule out "always" and "never" answers. Re...
