  1. 'Right to Die', what's your take on it?

I do not have an issue with it especially for terminal where the person has made their wishes known. I have witnessed many painful/uncomfortable deaths and I certainly would not want to experience that. The doses of medicine I have given at those tim...
  2. Weekend option non-bedside positions?

I think you would be lucky to find a weekend bedside position. The only ones I know are home hospice and home health as mentioned.
  3. I can't smell c-diff

I can smell c-diff but have noted that not every patient with it has that distinct smell. Some don't. GI bleed..yes indeed.
  4. Working for two hospitals

I did before. I worked outpatient Per diem and med surf per diem at 2 facilities. It was awesome.
  5. Abandonment if I don't pick up over time shifts??

I often had to stay over when I worked LTC. Once you accept the assignment it is yours until you get relief. Her threats are ridiculous but they do put you in a bad spot.
  6. Is this unreasonable?

The stories and poor practice would bother me. However I would not want to create an environment where being a team player is frowned upon. I expect that any other nurse on my unit is competent to adjust meds if I am tied up. So if they are doing it...
  7. Did you marry a doctor?

No but I have seen it get awkward when a nurse and MD go from being "bed buddies" to not. Meaning..oh Dr Seuss is on call, can you talk to him about my patient please.
  8. Brian Short News

Sad news. I really don't know what to say other than my thoughts are with those personally affected and those who knew the family well.
  9. Am I burned out?

It doesn't sound like you are burned out. You said you are bored. Do you feel you aren't learning anything? Is it too routine?
  10. Burnt out

You have nothing to lose by applying to clinic jobs so go for it.
  11. Food Pressure: Coworker Edition

My coworkers are not that pushy. I always get asked and when I decline, that's it. I do appreciate being included as you never know when I might want to indulge. I would just continue to decline politely. I'm not making up anything just because I don...
  12. O2 protocol 89 vs 90%

That's pretty standard from what I've seen. Our wording may differ somewhat...ex: supplemental O2 up to 4L/NC for saturations less than 90%.
  13. I got school nurse. That's not for me at all.
  14. port accessing tips.

Great tips. I always inspect the port with clean hands before I do the sterile stuff. The deep ports still give me issues but holding it stable and stretching the skin taut often helps.
  15. how to leave a job...gracefully

Are you saying you want to work your notice without people knowing you are leaving? That's a bit hard and would likely lead to more gossiping IMO. Anyway, I'm not phased by gossip or fake interest when I'm leaving a job for another place.
  16. Every other weekend

As a night shifter, I preferred to have the Friday night off at a minimum. If Thurs night was off, even better.
  17. Feedback desired orienting new nurse

I think it helps to set goals during the orientation (long and short term). That has worked for me as both the trainee and preceptor. The nurse sets her own written goals and the preceptor writes down goals, things to work on, etc.
  18. Med-Surg sentence

That is totally unacceptable to have someone sitting with a patient while their assignment is uncovered. Anything could have occurred within that time frame. What happened after you stopped being a sitter and why didn't they have a dedicated sitter? ...
  19. What is the least stressful high paying nursing specialty?

If I REALLY wanted 6 figures and low stress, I would look outside of the nursing realm.
  20. Interview next week....UM/UR

Hi all, I have an interview coming up for a CM position in the compliant documentation management dept. I am figuring that this will be similar to utilization management. What type of questions should I ask? Of course I would ask about the training ...
  21. Interview next week....UM/UR

Yes, there are 4 or 5 of us plus a lead specialist. I'd love to cross train but I think this will be quite intense from what I've been told.
  22. Interview next week....UM/UR

Well I did end up getting the job and start next month. My title is Case Manager RN lol. The other traditional case managers are also managed by the same director.
  23. So excited!!!

Congratulations! I will be working in a very similar role (the job title is slightly different). The training here is in partner with JA Thomas. I'm very excited and nervous as well.
  24. So...What Kind of Nursing Task Do You LIKE?

-Starting IVs (love me some blood return) -Foleys -End of shift report -Giving IV pain meds -Wound care (not ALL of them) -Post mortem care
  25. Pt asks: Is my surgeon any good? Your response is...

I just say something simple like "you're in good hands and we'll take great care of you when you return to the floor" I don't elaborate on anything. As stated, patients just want some comforting words.
