  1. Nursing Documentation Forms

I would be willing to share, but most of our forms are now on computer (we are trying to go paperless) so I don't know how much help I could be to you. We have been doing admission history paperless for quite a while now.
  2. Advice needed regarding clinical sup position

I would say you are certainly qualified for that role. I wouldn't worry so much about hearsay, just go for it!
  3. LPN pay versus RN pay in AR?

Here's information for Northeast AR: $18.50/hr for brand new RN graduate (days) Shift differentials are typically $2.75 for 3p-11p shift and $3 for 11p-7a Cost of living is very reasonable in AR, keep that in mind. RNs are starting out much higher st...
  4. It sounds like you have many doubts about it and that should answer your question.
  5. TN BASIC PAY FOR RNs

You can make much more than $20 in TN--I would not sign that contract!
  6. Well... I went and did it...

If you're not opposed to working a nursing home, you will find a decent LPN wage in most nursing homes. The hospital pay for LPNs is sad really. I was an LPN before I was an RN and made around $12 an hour!! Worked my butt off for it too.
  7. Henderson , ASU, and UAFS

I think the ASU BSN program is excellent. Seems to turn out highly intelligent, motivated graduates. It is also well organized and provides a good balance between classroom and clinical experience. Most of the clinical time is spent at St Bernard'...
  8. RN for 25 years

I am fortunate to work for a facility that does not have top-out pay. I was making $27 a hour within 5 years of graduating RNs school. (advanced in my job roles some too)
  9. Name hospital and salary--everywhere

Midsouth--very cheap cost of living. Can buy a nice 3/2 house for around $90,000 New grads: $18.00 + $3 shift diff, usually can find places offering sign-on bonuses, loan repayment, or other perks. Weekend option agreements can make around $30 an ...
  10. Management on Decline?

I think it's a combination of things. First of all, bluntly, not everyone is cut out to be an effective manager. In fact, very few people are. Many try and fail at the entry level. It is very stressful and a salary job and it's NOT just a 40 hour ...
  11. Charge nurse duties for med/surg/tele floor

Our ratio is 6 on days and evenings and 7 on nights. Charge nurses usually take a couple of pts and then they do assessments for the LVNs, help with discharges, IV starts, admissions, etc. They are also responsible for the temp checks, crash cart c...
  12. Advice needed, please

It's very hard to say without knowing what your strengths and weaknesses are. How long have you been in the CCU? I have you functioned in a charge position before?
  13. Some Questions

My thoughts would be to start out on the floor in staffing and then move into the Critical Care setting. I absolutely think you need to work in a few different areas to have a "feel" for how things are. I worked on several different specialty floor...
  14. qualifications for chief nursing officer

If the hospital is Magnet status or working to become Magnet, then there are specific education requirements. For the CNO they must have a BSN and a Master's degree (though the Master's does not have to be in Nursing)
  15. Need a Manager's Insights - Career Advice

As someone mentioned above, most levels of management in nursing have started out at the lowest level and worked their way up. For example, one might be an assistance manager (and still be working as staff nurse) or spend years as a charge nurse bef...
  16. HELP! I DON"T WANT TO GO THROUGH CNA first...

Do me a favor and don't become a nurse if this is the attitude you have.
  17. Don't give oxygen?

depends on the circumstances. I've seen a MD angry at a nurse who slapped a 100% nonrebreather on a COPD'er pt.
  18. Weekend RN option

no, because here everyone is hired in on the understanding that they are required to work every other weekend .
  19. Weekend RN option

At the hospital I work for there is no "negotiating" Pay is based on years of experience and all new grads get the same rate. Weekend option pay is already set in stone also. You get what everyone else is making at your ranking, plus your bonus pa...
  20. making the transition to management

Just be prepared to juggle alot of different things at once, and hopefully you are the type of person that enjoys a challenge. In management you will never be bored, that's for sure! I think you are at a certain disadvantage being promoted on the s...
  21. Insulin question

As someone said above, you should always recheck a low blood sugar. False lows may come from not having enough blood on the strip also.
  22. Am I Doing it For the Right Reasons?

I think if you apply yourself you should not have any problems. In larger universities there is usually a good support system, such as tutors and help sessions that can help you prepare. Sounds like you have some good qualities and would make a gre...
  23. Made a med error and am Furious!!

Yes, your error(s) could have been prevented, by YOU! Why are you putting blame on others for your mistake? You did not follow the 5 rights did you? Lesson learned, never give a patient medication without doing a chart check first, and NEVER hang ...
