That stinks that you won't get any ob/l&d/peds time, (and no psych either, but I would have been happy about that one myself;)). Lots of Med/surg it looks like, which I think will be very helpful...
I think when you work 8 hrs vs 12 hrs it's very different...the people who work 11-7 don't need to go straight to bed, but when you work 7p-7a, its helpful to go straight to bed...there's less time...
I just wanted to chime in again...this is so true!! My parents and brother "get it" because they've all worked night shift before, they are very understanding. My husband does not get it...he tries,...
Well, as a kid of a former night shift nurse, I can say that some kids do get it! We knew to be as quiet as possible, and I think we usually suceeded...mom usually had to be shaken awake when it was...
I have to agree with the another poster, I don't see where or how you really "lost it". I've seen my charge nurses throw phones before, while dealing with far less crap, I think you held it together...
I'm still finishing up orientation to postpartum...but I've been taught to do a full assessment. I was told to be a little more "gentle" on the c/s mom's fundus, but definitely to check it! I would...
Hopefully that doesn't happen very often! I think the mom and the nurse can decide together how safe it is, and as much as mom may want her baby every second, if she is exhausted and/or needing a lot...
Someone maybe already posted this one, since I haven't read the whole thread, but this is how I remember how to place leads: "White on the right, smoke over fire" and then you are just left with green...
I normally do well baby nursery, not NICU, but I have also been cross training to Post Partum. It is a nice change to take care of patients who aren't "sick"...I used to work Telemetry, so I...
isn't it funny...but i wish my parents had gotten my ears pierced when i was a toddler, and they would have had to take care of them for me at first! i was older when i finally talked them into it,...
well said! its great to be supportive of people, and its true we don't all come here with our "a" game when it comes to typing, grammer, spelling, etc...but there's a limit to how much slang and...
I'm not in the NICU, but in our well-baby nursery we are supposed to gown up whenever we hold or feed a baby. Gloves aren't needed. I'm sure our NICU has the same
Reread the first post...the OP clearly states "fish the pills out and give them OR call pharmacy to send new ones up". Yuck. edited to add the quote, my emphasis do you fish out the meds and give them...
So, are you saying a circumcision makes a member look nicer later? And, boob jobs and lipo are not something forced on you (at least hopefully not!), you get to make that decision for yourself as a...
My husband is not circumcised and has never had a problem...no infections, hygiene issues are non exisistent. He was never talked about in the locker room or anything like that. Personally, we will...
I'm not sure what L&D has to do, but for postpartum/nursery/nicu, we have to sign up for 20 hours of call time for a 6 week schedule...that's full and part time. I think PRN has to do 12 hours?...
Great thread! Any other tips?? I'm being oriented to PP (from nursery, we are working our way to mother/baby couplet care) and my orientation is pretty much over, with of course no serious...
The biggest reason I went for my ADN vs BSN was all about money...it was so much cheaper to get that ADN. I guess the time in school was shorter too, but, really not that much, we had to go all...
Has anyone ever had to pick up 100#s by themselves to waist level while working? If I had a large patient (well, most adults are over or at least close to 100 lbs, right? that doesn't even seem large...
I would disclose it, I think they are concerned about liability involving you as a student nurse at clinicals working with patients. I think depression that is controlled with counseling (it seems...
We still have separate nursery and postpartum for now...the plan is to go to mother baby by September, but who knows if that will happen (lots of staff moving this summer, having babies themselves,...
