  1. Just wondering if anyone else has career related tattoo's

I don't have any medical related tats yet, but I do have some ideas in the works. I'll probably wait until graduation and get one as a grad present for myself...I just got a new one a few months ago so that should hold be over for the next 16 months ...
  2. Less Applicants for Nursing Programs?

I couldn't find anything to back up those kind of statistics in the quick search I did on yahoo and it certainly isn't the trend in my area. The community colleges around here have waitlists that range from 2 to 5 years. My school received over 900 a...
  3. So Excited

I don't have any advice (sorry) but I wanted to say CONGRATS!! and good luck!! :) I'm also looking forward to a career in OB/L&D (starting my OB rotation on August 27!!) :balloons:CONGRATS:balloons: RNin'08 ~my reality check bounced~
  4. Want to Leave My School

Call some of the other schools in your area and ask about their policies. Many of the schools in my area don't allow for transfer, except in extreme situations (mostly because of the differences in program layout). Definitely contact the admissions ...
  5. Reading, WWYD?

My suggestion would be to read through, or even skim through the highlights, possibly jot down a couple of notes if you're so inclined, but over all...don't stress. Running through the highlights before class will help you in that it won't be complet...
  6. Best Scrubs for Fatties

Tell me about it...our school requires all black scrubs with black shoes...we're lovingly (I hope) referred to as 'the death squad' in more than a few of the local facilities. And to get back to the OP, I love the Cherokee cargo pants with the drawst...
  7. Wait for AS or complete BSN

I did the same thing. I took the classes I needed to get on the FRCC wait list and found out that it would be at least 3 to 5 years. I managed to get all of my pre-reqs for UCHSC and UNC done in about 18 months and am getting ready to start my senior...
  8. How are the wait lists in Colorado?

All of the BSN programs I looked into in CO are competitive, once you apply you're either accepted or not. Occasionally a few people are put on a "wait list" (only until the start of the semester) incase there are others who are accepted but decline ...
  9. On Regis' Alternate List

Good luck!! I hope you get that letter soon! :) RNin'08
  10. Denver VA

My lab instructor has been an RN in the OR at the Denver VA for 7 or 8 years and she absolutely loves it. She's always telling us stories about the people she works with and how much she enjoys her job. I haven't been there yet myself but a friend of...
  11. Acceptance letters from FRCC?

They don't send out actual acceptance letters, once your wait list number is reached they send you info in the mail and via email some time before the start of the semester the program begins. I've been on the wait list for 3 years (even though I to...
  12. Low Amniotic Fluid

My thoughts are with you and your family. Any time something is ascew with a pregnancy it is a scary thing. I think the suggestion of going along to a visit would be a good idea if at all possible. That way you could ask some direct questions and get...
  13. working as GN (GPN) before taking exam?

Colorado no longer allows working as a GN/GPN. Check out the state board of nursing website: http://www.dora.state.co.us/nursing/news/news.htm the info is a little more than half way down the page, in the 2005 info section. RNin'08 ~my reality chec...
  14. UCDHSC or Regis? Need Your Opinion, Please!

Tough choice! Both are excellent schools. I started at UCHSC this semester and am really enjoying it. The instructors are great, they're helpful, easy to get along with and they're set on doing everything they can to help each student to succeed. I a...
  15. planning a move to CO: what's the pay like?

Where in CO do you want to live tutored? The cost of living is high but much lower in the metro areas than in the mountain communities. You can buy a beautiful home in a great neighborhood for about 250,000 if you live in the suburbs of Denver. Start...
  16. Fort Collins-Greeley commute?

I got into UNC the first time I applied, so no wait, but I also got into CU and decided to get my degree there. I took pre-reqs at UNC and really enjoyed it. A few of the friends I made on campus are currently in the program and love it. The school h...
  17. 2 years of pre-reqs and one application. I got my acceptance letter last March and had to wait for classes to start Jan. 07...of course I also put myself on the CC waitlist "just in case" and have been on that list for almost 3 years and will probabl...
  18. Fort Collins-Greeley commute?

When I was at UNC last year there were a lot of students in my classes that commuted from Fort Collins and Windsor (I made the commute from Denver!) The drive to Windsor is a bit easier, only about 20 minutes and a lot less traffic, but like other po...
  19. New Year's resolutions - How are you doing?

Congrats to all of you who have been keeping up with your resolutions! I haven't managed to stay on top of things so well. My resolution (pertaining to school) was to get and stay more organized, in an attempt to get control of my time management......
  20. Moving to Colorado this summer

I'm glad to hear you found the info you needed. Good luck with the rest of your LPN courses and the impending move :) I hope the transition goes smoothly, most of the people here have really good things to say about Denver School of Nursing. RNin'08 ...
  21. human anatomy and physiology need information

I sent you a PM with more info
  22. human anatomy and physiology need information

Check with your local schools. Several of the community colleges in my area offer A&P online. Good luck :) RNin'08 ~my reality check bounced~
  23. I'm so Happy!

I got my letter almost a year ago, started classes in Jan...and there it is, hanging on my refrigerator! (DH just laughs and shakes his head when he sees it *still* hanging there) Congrats!! RNin'08 ~my reality check bounced~
  24. Am I just being anal or is this really BAD??

I also have a real problem with grammar/spelling/punctuation errors coming from the professionals that are leading our education. I've been working to let go of some of it but I don't think I'd be able to in this situation. If this is something that...
  25. No "cost of living" ("market") raise this year!!!

I'm not a nurse yet but I've been talking with a lot of HR departments (looking for shadowing and intern positions) and many are very open with their pay scales. You can also check the online job searches, most list hourly wages. I've been given numb...
