  7. There won't be any raises this year

Those CEOs and CFOs probably have legally binding contracts that guarantee those bonuses. If I was the CEO or CFO it would be a great way to instill trust and honor if I would forgo that bonus...
  8. Job market prefers BSN , turns away ADN

If they are looking at magnet status this may play into it. The number of nurses educated at higher levels "looks" better. I was on a committee at my old hospital and they looked heavily at how many...

When I was hired as a new grad in 1992 I made $13/hour and guess what-even though I had stellar evals-no raise in 1993, no raise in 1994(no one else had a raise either). I'm not sure when they started...

  13. SDA I understand more clearly. Are these people constantly talking bad in front of patients as well? This could be considered disruptive behavior to co-workers.Then that would be an HR problem IMO....
  14. I think people vent-just like you did (OP)-about their jobs(or lack of). My husband is a pilot and complains about his job at times-there are portions that he dislikes BUT he isn't going to quit his...

    Specialization courses were better-more applicable.
  16. Survey: How do you get a life outside of work?

How true!! My husband got used to looking to make sure it wasn't the hospital before he picked up---unless I wanted to pick up an extra shift.
  17. What's so stressful about working 3, 12hr shifts?

I've reached the conclusion that hospital nursing is not conducive to a healthy lifestyle. I'm out of there as soon as I can find something better. Sadly, I agree. I loved bedside nursing in a...
  18. What's so stressful about working 3, 12hr shifts?

ArtisticAthlete, When I first became a nurse the 3-12 hour shifts were doable. As I got older AND had a husband and a family the 12 hour shifts were harder on me mentally and physically(and I am...

Oh, I have 6 year olds and they are rarely sick so I haven't had to call in more than 2 times for them being sick.
  22. How often do you get sick?

When I worked bedside nursing (over 13 years of bedside before 'desk' job) I called in less than a half dozen times-once because of pink eye-the rest I couldn't breathe due to congestion.
  23. Nursing Shortage

I think it is specific to several areas that have many nursing schools/colleges have more applicants, less jobs--supply larger than the demand.
  24. Where is blood not admnistered?

The clinic where I work (Doctor's office) does administer blood products when needed.
