  2. Should an RN accept CNA/PCT job for now

In 1994 a classmate of mine (we graduated with BSN in 1992) worked as a CNA -until I got married an moved away since there were no RN positions in the hospital where we worked.
  3. About the CPR certification

Some CPR cards are good for one year and some are good for 2 years. AHA is normally 2 years. Some places of employment require yearly recertification, some do not. I have been in healthcare for...
  4. What people forget is that other states stopped testing AND reporting H1N1 long before WI-----that may be why WI had higher numbers even though it might have been misleading.....
  5. That IS the alternative. Those that do not get the seasonal flu vaccine will have to wear a mask starting in
  6. The mandate is for the flu shot(seasonal) not the H1N1---yet.

  8. Thank you for sharing! I have 3 classes left at Walden. I took a much-needed 'vacation' from Walden for one 8-week session in anticipation up the upcoming stress. Hope to be done in February....
  9. Doctor's office Nursing Opportunities

They are normally posted on the clinic's website. I work in a clinic system and there have been no RN or LPN jobs posted for the past 6 months-people are staying
  10. Worked as a CNA in a nursing home and then a hospital during my 4 years of college. Always knew I wanted to be a nurse.
  11. I used FMLA after I delivered. It is generally used to care for a family member-young or
  12. Was pregnant with twins. I stopped working at 34 weeks-this was due to no respectable shoes for work still fit(only slippers or sandals worked). I started working 4 hour shifts starting at 32 weeks....
  13. How often do nurses have sex in the hospital?

Not as often as the movies/TV implies-who has the
  14. :heartbeatI have been an RN for nearly 2 decades and have loved and disliked my role as an RN along the way. I now am out of the direct-patient care arena and teach in a clinic setting.. I have a...
  15. RN acting as a Mid-Level provider

Worked in an ICU with standing orders/ protocols for many years. "Guessing"(which is what I have seen, at times) what a provider would want in a certain situation is much different and a position I...
  16. Thank
  17. Thanks, I don't want to doom and gloom her but there are 2 nursing programs in our area. There are a surplus of new grads. The only hiring being done in the hospital setting is for experienced...
  18. Absolutely!! Chemistry came into play even more when I worked in the ICU-can't imagine not understanding those concepts in that arena.
  19. I think it helped me look at Pharmaceuticals that are given to my patients much differently. I also had to take Physics along with Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. Well worth it.
  20. Favorites...

No need to duck. I was a relatively new nurse when I was charge (2 years experience) on a cardiac floor. I had expressed interest and had shown leadership skills to my co-workers. There were...
  21. LPN looking for alternatives

Case management? work for an insurance company/ Audit charts for Quality Improvement in a hopsital, clinic, or insurance company? Teach at a local LVN program?
  22. Random Question

Where I have worked -floated to NICUs-there have only been RNs and either surgical techs or CNAs.
  23. RN acting as a Mid-Level provider

That is what I have seen. There are standing orders, etc. but there are a lot of judgement calls being made on the MD's behalf. I would be quite uncomfortable in that role.
  24. 25K sign on bonus

The hospital where I worked for 10 1/2 years offered $25,000 sign on bonuses but you had to work there for 2 years. The money wasn't all up front either-only so much every 6 months with a total of...
  25. 25K sign on bonus

I haven't heard of any since at least 2001 or 2002 in the areas I have worked. Many new grads are looking for ANY job-more applicants than jobs-the bonus is probably pretty rare.
