  1. What's your story? Why did you take up nursing?

Growing up, I either wanted to be a soldier like my Grandpa or become a doctor. I tried joining the army as an infantryman, but since I wanted to become doctor as well, I ended up becoming a combat medic (medical specialist) and figured I would jump ...
  2. Can I join military as an LVN?

First of all, the Army's trying to change the whole LPN classification from 91WM6 to some other MOS classification (I remember when Mike 6's where 91Charlies). I forget, don't really care. Secondly, you'll need PHTLS and EMT to become a fully qualifi...
  3. Can I join military as an LVN?

$175? I make that in 7 hours as a civilian LVN here in California. You need to go PLDC and get promoted to staff sergeant fast.
  4. Civilian Hospitals vs. Military??

Plus being a soldier, you get to play with interesting military toys like I have the past 10 years. Nothing like going full battle-rattle with 6 m-4/a2/m249 magazines full of 5.56mm bullets and a platoon of killers with you. Of course, if your stuck ...
  5. Use of Morphine for end of life comfort

I heard hospice sometimes uses 1000 mg of morphine sulfate per dose on dying patients!!!!! The most I've ever given ms04 wise was around 2-20mg. I'd freak if I gave more than that knowing what ms04 would do to someone (specially the elderly).
  6. Does the term 'Nurse' bother you?

    roger that, sir!!!!!!! hooooo-ah!!!!!
  7. CNA's

Depends where you go. It could cost you $1000 per program or do what I did: Hook up with a nursing home that pays while you train as a CNA. Best career move I've ever done. CNAs in California make anywhere from $10 to $21 per hour.
  8. 8 hour or 12 hour shifts

I've never worked 12 hour shifts, but I wouldn't mind having more days off. Besides, 4 extra hours isn't a big deal for me since I USE TO WORK 16 HOURS doing doubles and overtime years ago.
  9. How can I give a good report?

Speaking of "rhythm", if you work in a cardiac-telemetry unit, you need to know the cardiac rhythms of your patients.
  10. How do you give report?

Do you just spit out the highlights or do you report everything about that patient even thought that pt's been in your unit for weeks? My charge nurse at my other part time job wants just the highlights and changes while certain nurses from the other...
  11. Does the term 'Nurse' bother you?

Oh, hell no! If anybody tries that "male nurse" crap with me, I'll be throwing a right hook and a buttstroke with my M-4 Rifle. Wearing my army BDU's more than makes up for my masculinity and machoness.
