  1. I work in a prison and most times when the offender is waiting on medications, it is taken from stock meds. However, as long as the medication card in question was never personally possessed by an inmate, it can be placed into the stock as long as the name is removed and the name of the med, dose, and exp date are clearly visible. At least this has been the standing rule in the two prisons I have worked at. Prison life is very different than that of anywhere else and the same rules do not usually apply. Many times even state corrections and federal institutions have different rules. OP, you follow their rules and don't worry about it or what other posters are saying on here. I agree with another poster that you do NOT want to make it seem as though you are doing favors/favoring one inmate; we both know what will happen next. Safety is the primary goal, your safety first, no matter what so please never forget that. Stay safe my friend.
  2. JKL33, You are really something else... You completely took what I said out of context. What I was saying is that since the indoctrination of the electronic medical record (which is a requirement for CMS reimbursement), it is much harder to make a mistake because many places are required to scan the medication barcodes under their own login credentials. You are also implying that other nurses are inept and incompetent. I am saying that we are all nurses with the same licensing and responsible for what we do, not what someone else does. It is illegal for anyone to pre-pop medications when they come in a multiuse card/vial/bottle but it is NOT illegal to pull individualized medications and place them in a facility-approved place (bag, box, med cart) that lists a room number as long as the medications remain in the original packaging. So, the next time you decide to jump all over someone, please know what you are talking about better than the person you are accusing.
  3. I honestly don't see the problem here. I agree you shouldn't pull controlleds and leave them. However, the nurse administering the meds you pulled will be signed in under their own name so if there is an issue, it falls squarely on their shoulders. I will definitely pull controlled meds and hand them to another nurse if the situation warrants. I will also give meds to a patient that is not mine to help another nurse out... I can read and do my own quick assessment prior to; I would call it using my own judgement. Your refusal might come across to your co-workers that you are not a team player and they will probably stop helping you out when you need something. Just things to keep in mind.
  4. Im seriously contemplating Duquesne's FNP certificate program. How has it been so far?
  5. Go at your own pace. Don't worry about what others are saying (many people lie about their progress) or doing, just do what's right for you and your family. It can be challenging, but it's definitely worth it! Good luck!!! ?
  6. Students only take one course at a time, but some courses can be completed in a day; it's totally dependant on your strengths and weaknesses. I completed the MSN in 14 months, but some have done it much faster. I chose to have more family time than study time.
  7. Yes, I am a single mother, I will absolutely need financial aid. I only have two choices, be content with MSN (not really an option because where I work, there are only pay raises for MSN-FNP or FNP-C) or continue for PGC; DNP is not an option. I've literally spoken with enrollment counselors at 43 different schools which offer post-grad FNP. There are 2 I'm seriously thinking about. Have you looked into/completed a post-grad certificate? If so, I am very interested in any info you would care to share.
  8. I did RN-BSN and then a few months later decided to go back for MSN.
  9. 3/4 is actually better than I expected! Which one were you required to repeat?
  10. Sunset87, Thank you for sharing; it is very helpful! ?
  11. What would you like to know? I have nothing but positive things to say about the WGU BSN and MSN programs. Without their flexibility, I would not have been able to complete another degree as a single mom working a full time night shift job.
  12. I'm currently finishing up MSN (Leadership and Management) at WGU and starting to look for FNP certificate programs. Has anyone recently graduated from WGU and gone on to another university where they accepted most of your credits? If so, what was accepted, where did you go, and how do/did you like the program? TIA
  13. Joshsc, Did you finish your MSN through WGU or elsewhere? When you were at Perdue Global, what were you going for?
  14. I appreciate the comments. I fully understand how things may or may not transfer; I'm not new to this rodeo. You are missing the point of this thread. My intentions were to ask the advice of those who had taken each route, MSNFNP or PMFNP, not why credits wouldn't transfer.
