  1. I want to add that any career that requires licensing will always ask "have you ever had a professional license revoked or suspended" and you must answer truthfully. I really wanted to switch to elementary education rather than go through 5 years of monitoring, but there is no way a public school system who deals with children and parents will be willing to hire a nurse who failed to complete a substance abuse program. The parents can even look you up in the board of nursing and see exactly what you did. There is definitely a liability and possible backlash for the school if they hire a nurse with a revoked license. IT, construction, business, marketing, biology, chemistry, and accounting are much more realistic fields to switch to as they do not require professional licensing and they don't work with vulnerable populations (e.g. children) All in all I make this comment to emphasize how important it is to throughly look at the requirements and be realistic about what kind of jobs you can get if you decide to give up your nursing career, it's a huge decision with financial consequences that can impact the rest of your life. In the grand scheme of things five years is not that long, my first year of monitoring flew by. The worst part was the two months of inpatient rehab I had to do before they would let me start my contract, the rest is honestly not that bad especially once you find a job with an understanding manager.
  2. Good to know about your experience in California. In Florida however the employer has the option to only report to the states recovery program to meet mandatory reporting laws, and this poster is asking about advice in Florida with our recovery program (IPN). I understand that Cali is different (every state is different). You're right about the stipulations after getting a license back, but it still stands that the nurse is not "banned forever" from nursing like some might assume.
  3. That is not necessarily true... most hospitals choose to not charge criminally. Also in this state (FL) IPN remains confidential from the board and the nurses license remains clear during and after monitoring.
  4. You can decline and your case will go to the board. They will either suspend or revoke your license for a certain period of time (1-2 years). Once that time is up you can go back to the board and present evidence of why you should get your license back (show negative drug screens, proof of outpatient rehab, therapy, etc.). So no you will not lose your license forever even if you decline IPN, but you will be out of nursing for longer than if you would have done the treatment recommendation. Whatever you do, do not voluntarily surrender your license, as I believe it is really hard to get back once surrendering.
  5. Hair testing for alcohol is not typical (usually just tested for drugs), but has been done if the person is referred for alcohol. Peth goes back 2-4 weeks, the more you drink the longer it takes for your Peth test to become negative. I would not worry about the hair test, and since you have refrained from drinking for 3 weeks, the Peth will most likely come back negative. Hope that helps. What state are you in? THC referrals usually get the most leniency, I would not worry too much.
  6. Do you have an email that I can communicate with you at?
  7. Sorry to hear that. Were you recommended inpatient or outpatient rehab and did they give you a timeframe?
  8. Whats the name of the facebook group for spring 2019?
  9. I am just confused about the new HESI point system. If I got a 94.57 does that mean I will get 9.45 points? I haven't been to the information session yet, I'm going to the on August 16th.
