I am now in the middle of Week 8 of my 4th quarter at Rasmussen College in Fort Myers, Florida.
This week I have already taken two exams: Adult Care - Chronic Exam #2 and the proctored Mental Health ATI. The good news is I passed both!
For my Chronic exam, I scored an 83%. Not amazing, but not horrible either. I scored right in the middle of the pack. We were given a concept guide for this exam which listed headings of sections in the book from which the questions would be pulled. Since I did not read the book, I was not able to answer the super specific questions. And then I made some critical thinking mistakes on a few questions. But! Overall I am pretty happy with my performance. As I said, I did not really read the book. I studied using Picmonic, SketchyNursing, and NRSNG. Since I graduate in approximately 7 months, my studying method is more focused on preparing for the NCLEX and not for specific exams. I think I am also a bit jaded by working so hard last quarter only to miss out on an A by 0.1%. But I digress....
For my Mental Health ATI, I scored a 76.7%, which equates to a Level 2. I again primarily used Picmonic, SketchyNursing, and NRSNG to study for this exam. I did take the ATI assessments in the RN Learning System 3.0 and both practice exams. I only took the practice exams once each and then ran through their respective focused reviews in the ATI book, which are short little snippets from the chapter a particular question came from. I hope that makes sense.
Anyhow, my points is not to boast that I didn't read the books. My point is to let you all know how effective Picmonic, SketchyNursing, and NRSNG are as resources for nursing school! They make complex concepts simple and easy to remember and provide a ton of practice questions and other resources (cheat sheets, care plans, pictures, mnemonics, etc.). They have also saved me a ton of time. I have been able to balance out this quarter with spending more time with my family, even with two clinical days per week on top of lecture and lab and fluff assignments.
I currently sit with B's in all of my classes, which I am content with considering the amount of material we are covering, the balance I have brought to my personal life, and going into this quarter with a respectable 3.63 GPA.
I still have two exams to take over the next 4 days: Mental Health Exam #2 and proctored (practice) MedSurg ATI. The MedSurg ATI is not an official ATI because we do not take that until our last quarter (sometime in April, I believe), and this practice ATI does not count for a grade. That being said, I still want to do well. I want to know that all of this crazy studying I have been doing over the last two quarters has paid off, ya know?
Well, that is all I have for today! I hope everyone out there is crushing it, and until next time... Happy nursing!
