  1. There are regular discussion questions I believe weekly. Yes the physical exam/assessment is video taped. Cranial nerves, all systems etc. It is thorough. Working full-time is possible if you stay on top of the work and dedicate about 3- 4 hours ...
  2. Pain control

Gabapentin was one of the most abused drugs in prison. They snort it and shoot it. It should have been removed long ago. Many drug addict inmates will say and do anything for narcotics, even break their own fingers. There are far too many narcot...
  3. NP Jobs still looking pretty good.

If psychiatric nurse practitioners are included in those numbers the results will be off. The pmhnp's make more in this area. The nurse practitioner market here FNP or other medical NP's is terrible. The sad part is many of the lower paying NP jo...

  6. NP Jobs still looking pretty good.

In northern California, the market for NP's is pretty bad.. The few jobs available have pay in the 100 - $120,000 range. Mind you, most RN'S in California make over $120,000. There are simply too many NP'S and not enough jobs. And the schools ke...
  7. 1st NP Job: Pain Management, bad move?

Pain management is a tough practice, especially in this day and age with the "opoid epidemic" we hear so much about. Even though a good portion of the overdose deaths are from injecting these opiates into veins....the stigma with the pills sticks a...
  8. Shockingly low NP pay !

Most RN's in California are making $120,000+. Looking at starting pay for NP's is pretty depressing.....I have seen NP jobs offering as low as $100,000. Most seem to be $125,000. The market has been flooded by so many online programs. Too many gr...
  9. I have a friend in this program so ask any questions.
  10. Preceptor Link & Clinical Match Me

It would be cheaper to pay a preceptor yourself and cut out the middle man.
  11. Preceptor Link & Clinical Match Me

Starting January 2019, every student in these programs need to file compliants with the accreditation agency listed above. This is the only way things will change...the bad programs need to be shut down. They will not help you find preceptors unless...
  12. Provide clinical sites and preceptors

I really hope this works out. One of my main deterants to getting my NP is having to call clinics and beg them to precept me for free. Or having to pay a preceptor matching site thousands of dollars to try to place me.....no guarantee of course. I ...
  13. United States University (USU) FNP

The silence with this program is deafening. Over 70 posts with little to no information on the program.
  14. NP schools now required to find clinical sites?

The way things are now, an NP school providing a preceptor 2 hours away would be so much better than begging for one locally.
  15. NP schools now required to find clinical sites?

"ensuring clinical sites" = providing students with a list of medical clinics that the students get to cold call and beg to precept them for free. Nothing will change.
  16. PMHNP at Anderson University

Probably isnt doable if one works full-time?
  17. NP schools now required to find clinical sites?

Back in 2011 RN students were being told that by 2015 we would need doctorate degrees if we wanted to be nurse practitioners. I won't believe this until I see schools changing the practice.
  18. Worried about the future of ICU nursing

I have read somewhere that 1 out of every 4 RN's leave the profession completely in the first 5 years after getting their RN license.
  19. Experience for PMHNP

Indeed. Working the ER and asking patients pre printed psych screening questions does not make someone experienced with psych patients. Real mental health assessments are much more than that and come from years and years of direct patient care with...
  20. Experience for PMHNP

"and there are plenty of pmhnp openings." Let's consider why this may be. It's a prime indicator of nurse burn out and an insanely high turn over rate. Those of us working side by side with the pmhnp or as them see it. A major hospital in the area...
  21. Experience for PMHNP

As we recommend to all people wanting to pursue a psyciayric mental health nurse practitioner certificate, please get real experience in the field. Volunteer in an acute inpatient psych unit and see if this is the patient population you can handle o...
  22. RN to MSN Leadership &Management

Yes definitely take that R and R time. You are right it's about prioritizing. I start next week on the this degree and am going over the material this week. It's a lot of reading but I am learning to focus on the most important things they are loo...
  23. Has anyone completed an online post-MSN certificate in Psych?

This times 100. I literally have seen new RN's sign up for psych nurse practitioner programs and come to my site for clinicals. They have zero psych experience and thier Jaws drop when they see patients smearing their feces everywhere , biting thei...
  24. Worried about the future of ICU nursing

The need depends on where you live. I have tracked the nurse practitioner jobs posted in my area over the last 4 months and I noticed s common theme. Very few jobs are out here and the ones that are want a minimum of 2 years experience as a nurse p...
  25. NP schools now required to find clinical sites?

    I agree. Networking is everything.
