  2. Hour long interview for ER

Pixie, They said 12 weeks, give or take a couple
  3. Thoughts on hour long interview

FolksBtrippin, I didn't get the impression that they were being rude or harsh. Just seemed like the wanted to get to the bottom of the best candidate. They were professional and took a lot of time to explain things to me. I think it just froze and re...
  4. Thoughts on hour long interview

Hey guys, i just had an interview yesterday for an ER position. I have never worked ER, have been a nurse in women's and children's background. The interview went for an hour and I'm not sure how it went. Those ER nurses are an intimidating breed an...
  5. Charge nurse after 1.5 years on unit

I've been on a roll lately.. Thoughts on being required to do charge on level 3 NICU after being there for a year and a half? *That is without previous NICU experience. Management states all new staff is required to do charge (I wasn't made aware of ...
  6. Charge nurse calls doc at night

Tell me what you guys think of this..... my current job (NICU) on nights, when you have an issue with your patient you report to your charge nurse and then the charge makes the decision to call the physician or not. I have a couple issues with this.....
  7. Charge nurse after 1.5 years on unit

Not exactly. Outside of assignments and checking equipment charge also goes to deliveries. All deliveries. That means charge goes to delivery, usually with RT, and if it's high risk then they take another RN with them. You are signed off on deliverie...
  8. Charge nurse after 1.5 years on unit

Thanks everyone! Has opened my eyes to what it's really like out here. In hindsight, I had it maaade at my first job.
  9. Charge nurse after 1.5 years on unit

Pretty bad. Most of night shift has less than 5 years experience. Lucky if it's even 3 years. Management reasoning is they don't have enough people to do charge, so they make it mandatory.
  10. Salt Lake City RN salary

Hey All, anyone out there here know the current average RN salary in Salt Lake City, Utah? I see prior posts talking about it being low, wondering if it still this way? Glassdoor and payscale are averaging 26-33/hr. I've even seen as low as 23/hr....
  11. Charge nurse calls doc at night

I think a solution to this problem, and one I have used as a new grad, would be to go to your charge for advice prior to calling the doctor. There are a lot of things that can be resolved by speaking to other staff, calling a physician is last resort...
  12. Charge nurse calls doc at night

Nurse Beth, Could you elaborate on that statement? Are you saying a good reason why those nurses shouldn't make decisions, as in call the doctors, or management should have never responded that way?
  13. Charge nurse calls doc at night

Nope. Physicians in house at all times
  14. Charge nurse calls doc at night

We have a smaller unit than you and only have one MD on at night. My best guess is that they used to have issues with multiple calls during the night and my assumption is this was something requested by the doctors, for their convenience. If the cha...
  15. Charge nurse calls doc at night

Klone, That is what we did at my previous place of employment. This is only my second job as a nurse so just wanted to get a feel for others had experienced.
  16. Charge nurse calls doc at night

Triddin, That is the reasoning for why the floor does it this way. To avoid multiple calls to the provider during the night.
  17. Malpractice Insurance

Hey guys, just curious how many of you carry malpractice insurance and if so, through what company?
  18. New Grad Miserable Because of Management

" I make it a point to work at least 6 months in any job, just to be sure I don't have a "job hopping" look to my resume." Yep, me. This is a concern of mine. I worked on an OB/PEDS Unit for a year and two months. And then transferred to a NICU and h...
  19. What Happened to LPNs/LVNs in Hospitals?

The hospital I worked at last year, on the PP unit, actually brought the LPNs back when they had been phased out of the entire hospital years prior. We functioned under the team model. Although there was a lot of backlash from staff, and even more so...
