  1. St. Rose Siena or UMC

Are you already a Las Vegas resident and are familiar with the basics about these two hospitals? When I finish nursing school, I'd feel real fortunate to work at either. However, I suspect UMC would provide me with a richer learning experience.
  2. Fall 2018 CSN Hopefuls?

I'm full time and managed to prepare a best case scenario that has a 3 day/week schedule. When I'm actually able to register it may change.
  3. "Green House" model

They are trying that model at the Milwaukee VA.Green House Community Living Center opens soon; revolutionizes long-term care - Milwaukee VA Medical Center
  4. Moving to Henderson, NV

The North Las Vegas VA would be a hard commute from Henderson, but they are almost always looking for RNs because of high turnover.
  5. MO Hospital offering $5,000 sign-on bonus to new grads

The economics behind this is fascinating. In the last few months, there has been a host of NICU nursing vacancies posted in Las Vegas. I imagine one Las Vegas hospital poaches NICU nurses from another hospital, then that hospital has NICU vacancies...
  6. New Grad Moving Las Vegas

Congratulations! That went fast! Luckily for me, when I moved back in 2015, the housing prices were still low and I could buy a home for cash. While I'm very pleased that my home has more than doubled in value, I'm kinda stuck here because I can't a...
  7. sugar alcohols?

I believe the sweetener, xylitol, is an alcohol. Honestly, though, I'd have to google it.
  8. Best hospital in Las Vegas

From what I've heard, networking (not a fan of that word) can help the new grad applicant receive an interview. I know a Roseman new grad that was hired into the ED.
  9. Per Diem/PRN pay national comparison

On occasion I've seen that in Facebook posts, for non-nursing vacancies, from your facility. It's good to know that's an option for the nursing staff.
  10. Per Diem/PRN pay national comparison

Are you still eligible for shift differentials and overtime (40+hrs) pay? While I'm a nursing student, I'm still interested in topics that may be important to me in years to come. I already have health care coverage and I'm already in a sweet positio...
  11. New Grad Moving Las Vegas

OP: In case you missed it, UMC has posted new grad openings. UMC is a public, safety net, teaching hospital with a Level One trauma center and an old fashioned pension plan. If and when I graduate from from nursing school, I'd be thrilled to start...
  12. Career Changing

I'm 52 and starting an ADN program in two weeks. Friday I worked with a male nurse that became an RN at 60. Where are I live, RNs start at a little more than what I would have been making if stayed with my cushy building maintenance job. If you wan...
  13. New Grad Moving Las Vegas

Just guessing, here. Maybe, employers aren't convinced way-out-of-town applicants are serious about moving to Las Vegas. The key might be that you have to get past that hurdle. I'm not sure how one would do that, ideally you would be in direct con...
  14. Best hospital in Las Vegas

I'd love to start as a new grad at $35.95/hour, but St Rose rarely hires new grads and they certainly wouldn't hire someone with an ADN only.
  15. Best hospital in Las Vegas

St. Rose hospitals are reputed to pay the best. If you believe there is a relationship between patient satisfaction scores, infection scores and nursing satisfaction; you can google the Leap Frog and CMS scores. Also, all VA facilities have publicl...
  16. UW Milwaukee Takes a Page From WGU's RN to BSN

Wow! In all the years I lived in Milwaukee, I had never heard of this program. I'm in a WGU program, currently, and love it. I like that the UWM program allows the student to substitute pathophysiology (or other biology) for biochemistry.
  17. Triplets! I buy them in Amazon bulk.
  18. Fall 2018 CSN Hopefuls?

Its not over, but it sure seems like there was heavy competition for this class. I almost didn't think I'd need to turn in the healthcare experience and credential forms, but after watching today's story unfold, I'm glad for the two points. I don't...
  19. Fall 2018 CSN Hopefuls?

Yes, so far it seems like calls are going to people with 36 points and up.
  20. Fall 2018 CSN Hopefuls?

Me, too! Full-time with 39 points.
  21. Fall 2018 CSN Hopefuls?

The FB page suggests maybe the 30th.
  22. Fall 2018 CSN Hopefuls?

I'm putting all my money on the 9th.
  23. Fall 2018 CSN Hopefuls?

The advisement sheet for Fall 2018 says "Applications received after the Application deadline will only be considered if space permits." The Fall 2019 advisement sheet (available online) says no applications will be accepted after the deadline.
  24. Fall 2018 CSN Hopefuls?

  25. Besides connections, what qualities do the new grads that do get hired have? Are they bi-lingual? Do they have graduate degrees?
