    Brookhaven Fall 2019

Damn, I didn't know I could get the shots from Mildred. I'm paying a good bit of money for them! Are you doing the twinrix accelerated dosing of Hep A & Hep B? If you're having your last shot Monday, when will you get the titers and does she do that, too? I'm just wondering how long to wait to get those done. If the titers aren't where they need to be, I think you can get a booster but I don't know the timing on that. Would you ask Mildred how long to wait to get the titers after you get your last shot? Thanks! Sue

I got a 99! That hour beforehand really made it a lot easier. I just hit "Control and P" with my grade on the screen. I, too, still have to get my last hep B shot. I want to wait as long as possible to get my titers checked... wish I'd jumped on that a while ago! I still have to do the HESI. I'm going on the 12th for that. Gotta get studying! I've been working with apps so far but did buy a prep book. Anyone else still have to take the HESI?

Hey did you look on ecampus under the dosage calculation course? I don’t have a “grades” tab under that course. I guess he’ll just add it?

I have not but for some reason, I’m not that stressed about it.

    Brookhaven Fall 2019

How does everyone think they did on the dosage calculations yesterday? It was better than I thought it was going to be! I blanked on two of the questions! The true/false ones that asked about whether they flow rates would be correct or not. I'm glad there weren't more of those on the test! I looked on eCampus and I don't see a spot for grades to be posted under the dosage calculation workshop. Did anyone else see that? I signed up for the HESI February 15 but I have to change my date. We're having family come in on the 14th for the weekend so I'll have to take it sooner. Which also means I better have done really well yesterday so I don't have to take the dosage calculation again on the 16th!

Also, I went to Brookhaven on the 23rd and paid for the HESI and signed up for it. You are given your score immediately before you leave.

vmrose, I have not spent enough time studying for dosage calculation tomorrow so I'm grateful I'll have one more shot in February! I'm strong in math so I think that helps but there's so much more here than that! Can you tell me is it primarily knowing your conversion factors and being able to do the math -- I don't have these million abbreviations memorized yet (ac, DS, ss, HS, etc.) but know the ones that affect the dosage (qid, tid, qd, etc.). Can you give me any more insight on what I should focus on today to feel more prepared for tomorrow? Thanks!

Mildred, Brookhaven nurse, called me back a little while ago. You do not need to make an appointment but she said she's the only one there and she has quite a few doctor's appointments coming up and encouraged a phone call within a day or two of when you intend to go. Also, I found out she can do the TB test which is awesome! I love that I don't have to go to the doctor. Her phone number is 972-860-4195. She was very, very nice.

I just left a voicemail asking what their hours are and if I need to make an appointment for that so I'll post when I get a call back. Where did you go for your TB test? Did you have to go to your doctor's office for it?

Another question (gee, can anyone tell what I'm spending my day doing today?): On Brookhaven website, it says nursing applications are due by 3:00 p.m. and for dates, it says February 18-27. I had in my head that the due date was February 18 but does that mean we have until the 27th? Also, how long does it take to get the HESI results? I'm trying to decide how much time to give myself to study before taking it. Thanks!

Is anyone on this thread going to the dosage calculation workshop on January 26? I'll be there and would love to meet anyone applying for fall. Sue

    Brookhaven Fall 2019

VMRose, thank you so much for all of the information! I decided to apply for the dual enrollment based on comments made by students in the Brookhaven Spring 2019 thread. Here's the link to that thread (discussion regarding dual enrollment starts around page 11 and 12 if you just want to navigate there but it's a good thread to read): As they were waiting to hear about whether they got in or not, I think at least two applicants to the Brookhaven nursing program said if you did the dual enrollment, you automatically get into the Brookhaven nursing program -- BUT I don't know if you have to have taken the two recommended classes or not. Other than that thread, I don't have any confirming information and am too chicken to ask the question at Brookhaven. So I figured it couldn't hurt to apply. I just went on the TT website and applied (they have an application fee). Funny thing is they've received my out of state transcripts but not the one from Brookhaven yet so I don't know whether I'll be accepted or not. I'll keep you posted on here if you like. If you find anything else out on the dual enrollment, let us know! So I need to get the TB test and pharmacies here don't do it so I'll figure that out this week. Let's keep in touch. Sue

I forgot another question: does anybody know how current the TB test has to be? I'll bet I have to do that again... I had two of them just over a year ago. Has anybody met with the Brookhaven school nurse to discuss immunizations yet? I should probably do that sooner rather than later.

    Brookhaven Fall 2019

I, too, will be applying next month for the fall. I moved here in June from NC and I'm having difficulty getting my A&P classes accepted which has been unbelievably stressful. So far I've been told my A&P 2 class is the equivalent of SCIT 1408 which would mean I wouldn't have to retake the class but I won't get the three extra points for the class which seems so crazy to me. The course descriptions are so similar that the decision just seems random (not to mention unfair) to me. I'm going to try to meet with someone on Tuesday about this so I can get those three points! I still have to do the dosage calculation workshop. My husband and I moved the weekend of December 15 so I'm going next Saturday, January 26 for that. I also have to take the HESI yet. I've been using the HESI app on my phone. If anyone has any tips on prep for that, please let me know. I've also applied to Texas Tech for dual enrollment but haven't heard back yet. Has anyone else applied for that? Oh, and I have to get my Hep B titers checked this week and hope that goes okay. Can anyone tell me what their levels were? I think it just has to be above 12 miu/ml if I'm not mistaken. I've got my fingers crossed! Best of luck to all of us! My name is Sue, by the way.
  15. Hi... can any Brookhaven students shed light on the process for dual enrollment between Brookhaven and Texas Tech? Thanks!
