What is class average on HESI A2 results report?
It has been a few years since I took it but I think it was the avg score of people taking it at the same time as you that day. I’m not certain though.

RCGC Nursing Program
This program has been named number 1 in the state for multiple years. I graduated from there last year and the program is highly competitive. You will need strong HESI scores as well as all A’s in your pre-reqs. Many of us had a 4.0 when we applied. They use a points scale to rank applicants so even though you meet all of the requirements, you can still be waitlisted if other applicants scored higher. Good Luck! You can do it!

What was your residency like? (Starting ED residency in under 2 weeks)
I am currently in a nurse residency in the ED and that is pretty much my exact situation. We get 12 weeks with a preceptor after those first 2 weeks of classes. We also had ED specific classes later in. We had to take an EKG interpretation class that we had to pass or would have to relocate to another dept. We have a ton of online modules to complete as well. Our residency lasts 1 year with monthly 4 hour classes. It is great to have the support of your cohort. The ED is a wild ride so buckle up! It is incredibly fast paced and you never know what is coming in the door. Good Luck!

Am I too old to become a nurse?
I’m 50 and just graduated in May at 49. I am in a new grad program in the ED. I was not the oldest in my cohort by a lot! Go for it!!

Nursing shortage is BS
I grew up in North Jersey and currently live in South Jersey right outside of Philly. There are a lot of great hospitals here but big competition. You have tons of grads between South Jersey and Philly all competing for the same hospital jobs. With that being said...people in my cohort are getting jobs in hospitals and 1 even got a school nurse job! We all have ASN’s and if they are magnet, they are giving them 2 years to complete their BSN. It’s all about networking and being persistent to get in. I got my ACLS right after graduation to get a leg up. If you don’t have any certifications, it may be a good time to take a class to add to your experience. Good Luck!

New Grad Residency Program (Penn/Texas)
I live outside of Philly. It is very expensive to live here! If you plan to rent in Philly, get ready for sticker shock. This is a very competitive market to get jobs in due to the proximity to South Jersey. You basically have all the new grads from the Philly area and South Jersey all competing for the same spots. Nursing schools here have to limit how many students they take because it is so hard to get clinical placements for them. I would trade shoes any day with you to not do winters here! Good Luck!

New Grad RN looking for a job out of state
I just went through this. Make sure you have your licensing in order. If both states are part of the Compact then you are lucky. I had to get 2 separate licenses because my originating state is not part of the compact. Most hospitals have many start dates for their nurse residency programs so that should not be an issue. I would keep an eye on the various hospitals websites and start applying as soon as the positions are posted. The early bird gets the worm! I wound up getting an ED position and I am very excited! Good Luck!

What was your first job as a new graduate?
I’m starting a new grad position in the ED at the end of the month! I’m sure I will learn a ton there.

NCLEX RN result for California more than 2 weeks waiting already ?
It is a shame that your state does not participate in quick results. Hang in there!

NCLEX-RN help
I covered it in less than a moth. I did about 100q a day. I wound up getting the 60 day subscription because I wanted the self assessments. The 30 day does not come with any assessments.

NCLEX-RN help
You have not even completed half of the bank yet. I would continue what you are doing and finish the whole test bank. Once you do that, take the other assessment and see where you are at.

NCLEX-RN help
The good news is you have not scheduled yet so take that pressure off yourself. Have you finished the entire question bank yet? I completed the entire bank before I tested as well as the 2 assessments. I also did an assessment on NRSNG just to have another predictor. If you are scoring low, you may need a content review. Look at how you are scoring in different areas and review anywhere you have deficiencies.

NCLEX-RN help
Have you been reading every single rationale whether you got the answer right or wrong? I found that to be very helpful. It is time consuming but I used UWorld solely and passed the NCLEX first try.

BON - Pending Case Review?
Did you try emailing them to ask? I find calling gets you nowhere but emailing seems to be better. I am licensed in 2 states and have much better luck with getting responses that way. Good Luck!

Nclex
If you feel like you are not ready then change your date, It is free to do so. If you feel you need content review then you have a two options,,, invest the money for the materials you need to pass or possibly donate $200 to Pearson to retake the NCLEX, I would prefer to do the review then to fail it and have to repay to take it. Just food for thought. Good Luck!

2019 DUI Success Story
My understanding from classmates who had this type of situation is that they let you test and THEN after you pass they decide if you will get a license. I have 1 classmate who passed and had to wait another month for a decision on her license (which she got thank goodness)

New Jersey Nurse moving to North Carolina
I am in a similar situation. I just passed NCLEX in NJ and I am moving to Maryland. NCLEX is national so you only have to pass it one time in any state. The results transfer with you. I had to apply for license by endorsement in Maryland, pay the fee, get fingerprinted and background check again. That is it. I just graduated in May, passed the NCLEX in June so I have not worked in NJ because I knew I was moving. I believe the process is similar for many states. Good Luck!

Moving to Philadelphia - What Hospitals and FNP programs do you recommend?
I am a North Jersey girl who lives right outside of Philly. There are a ton of hospitals in Philly. UPENN and Jefferson are very good hospitals. CHOP is wonderful if you want to work with kids. Unfortunately, Hahnemann hospital is in bankruptcy and may close which has a lot of people scrambling. It is a shame as this hospital has been around since the 1800’s. Hopefully that will work itself out before you get down here. I would recommend putting applications out there well before your planned move as it is a very competitive market like NYC. Best of luck and welcome to the neighborhood from one northerner to another.
