I've thought about that. My only problem with passes is that many students don't want to go to class and come to my office. Some especially come before gym and try to stay in my office to get out of PE.
Oh I forgot to mention. A student was brought in this morning by a teacher for a small finger injury. Nothing major at all, small bruise that hurts when he touches it, no swelling, student can move it with no pain. Teacher says "it's swollen can we g...

I used to work at an LTACH and it was a big no no for nurses to do this. Technically, any breathing meds, even albuterol, fell on the RT and more often than not, they would document towards the end of the shift. Look up your policy and in the future,...
While I respect all of the work that aides do (I was a CNA once), you have to remember that your education and license is above theirs, therefore, they cannot look at what you're doing and make the determination that you need to be doing something el...
So you have a heart condition that you cannot afford medications for that made you tired? If it was just a problem of you didn't get enough sleep and just wanted to rest for a minute but didn't expect to fall asleep I would just say that and that yo...
This sounds like complete BS. Especially if she actually used the word "all." I think I would have even stopped her and told her that I find it hard to believe that all, meaning every single one of the patients were complaining because their nurse wa...
I don't think your future is as bleak as you think it is. You just have to picture yourself in 5 years and what does that look like. If I were in your shoes, I would take a job at a SNF. I know it's not what you want to do but you need some experienc...
Has anyone else ever had a period in time where they've just kinda had it. I had a student come in, no pass. Nope, go get a pass. She rolled her eyes as she left. She came back with a pass saying she needs an ice pack for her finger because she bent ...

I would say definitely go back for your RN and then your BSN. It will open more doors for you. I cannot believe how lucky I was to find a school nurse job that pays only a little less than what I was making in the hospital but they did require a BSN....

I would defiantly start now. When I started, I hadn't yet finished peds and I was able to turn off peds questions. If I remember correctly there are over 2000 questions so it's going to take time to go through them all and read the rationales. I thin...

I agree with the previous poster that said UWorld. I did that and Hurst which I also found very helpful but if your budget only allows 1, I say go with UWorld and you will be fine as long as you read the rationales, even for the ones you got right.
I refrain from giving them any more attention once I've assessed them and realized that they're fine. I tell them they're fine and to go back to class then I go back to whatever I was doing before or move on to the next student. More often than not,...
Same. I've had teachers storm into my office demanding this, that or the other for students without letting me assess and come to that conclusion. This is the highest paying school nursing jobs I've ever come across. Idk why they bother spending the ...
I just had a student come in because he ate spicy chips and he felt like "woah" No kidding, a teacher wrote him a pass, not just one of those plastic nurses pass, this one was written out with the student's name and everything. ?
Has anyone had experience with students having a hard time returning to school after head injuries? I have a student with many absences due to a head injury that happened early 2019. Most of these absences are due to mom keeping him home for headache...
I know that was annoying to you but that's a funny one. Maybe one day you'll look back and laugh at it. I would have said something like "did you take drugs? Because it sounds like you took drugs and maybe we need to get the dean involved" I'm sure ...
THIS Yes, this is why I have no problem being an ice pack nazi. I will gladly give an ice pack when it's warranted and I will withhold one when it isn't and gladly explain why. I think of this issue right here as a big part of my job and I am not in...
Update: I really want to discuss this with the doctor but, I don't know if this is a state thing or district thing, we need a release of information form from mom which I'm not really sure how to approach because she doesn't really want to discuss hi...
Ah! I completely forgot to mention that homebound tutoring is what we are thinking about. However, the social worker wants to do everything we can to get him in school. After a year though, shouldn't he have more of a plan to manage these symptoms.
