  1. Sick of nurses "referring" to our specialty

Oh yeah I get that a lot. And "oh so you hand out band aids and kiss boo boos?" No, I spend all day explaining to kids why they don't need to put ice on everything.
  2. I hate to tell you I told you so........

aww I'm such a softie, I will sometimes write them passes for cramps. Thankfully it hasn't gotten out of control, yet.
  3. I got my license number but it said I failed

OP any update? I would think an active license with your states BON trumps what "unofficial results" say
  4. I hate to tell you I told you so........

Add to that "I don't care what your teacher said"
  5. I hate to tell you I told you so........

If another student comes in because their teacher said to "just get an ice pack" I'm going to freak out. ?
  6. Vent Sesh

I've quickly learned that this does NOT sit well with a lot of teachers. I even had a teacher tell me "she feels pukey and needs to go home." ummm what?? I was livid because she's telling me this in front of the student, whom I saw and cleared about ...

This is gold!! But I think I would have line out of my door with kids asking me to take their temps in the hopes of maybe having a fever ?
  8. Vent Sesh

This!!!! If more parents/guardians did this, I suspect more kids would want to be in school. I do "boredom therapy" in my office and it works miracles, but only for kids whose parents won't pick them up for just anything.
  9. Vent Sesh

FF comes in this AM because he "fell" and "hurt" his wrist. Nothing wrong with it but he swears he can't flex it. Ok, ice it. He then comes in about an hour later asking me to take his temp because his stomach hurts. No fever, he then proceeds to tel...
  10. Vent Sesh

Frustrating! Especially when they look shocked that there's nothing you can do for them. Maybe refer them to the social worker? ?
  11. nurse reviewer vs. school nurse

Hi Amaezingrace, I did not go with the insurance job. I decided not to even apply. I haven't decided definitively how I'm liking the school job so I'm going to stick with it for now. Good luck!
  12. Hi everyone, I recently left an LTACH after my first year as a nurse. I couldn't get past working weekends and holidays (I know, I know, I chose this profession). I applied to a few schools, doctors’ offices, and one insurance company. One school cal...
  13. Vent Sesh

2 moms with medical degrees from the university of Google. They are the worst!! I wouldn't have the first clue how to deal with this hot mess. ?
  14. Parent with Borderline Personality Disorder

Woah! Something similar to this happened last year when a student was at an elementary school in my district. Mom fought to get a 504 that the nurse felt was unnecessary but mom won because she kept going up the chain of command. I talked to that nur...
  15. Working while sick

I would use this as a teaching moment. If any kiddos in your office see you coughing, I would also make sure they see you washing/sanitizing your hands.
  16. Vent Sesh

What?!?! What did her mom have to say about all of this?!?! Where does that friend's mom get off????? I would be fuming!!
  17. Too old for OB?

Yes, how is it going? I've been thinking of making the switch from school nursing to OB myself.
  18. Headaches

that's exactly why I won't let them know that, otherwise I would be running around picking everyone up in a wheelchair ?
  19. Headaches

Agreed! The students can call me a meanie or whatever expletives middle schoolers call adults they don't like but they cannot call me a coddler. I get really tough on headaches. When they come in with a "headache" but they feel the need to talk to e...
  20. Sick of nurses "referring" to our specialty

That has by far been the most difficult thing about school nursing. Even having another nurse to bounce some thoughts off of would be great. I came here after 1 year in the hospital and sometimes I feel like a deer in the headlights. I could not imag...
  21. Nosebleeds

I always keep them in my office and I agree with Middle School Math Teacher, teachers should not be responsible for dealing with bloody noses. Students can be sent to me and I will educate them on how to care for their own bloody noses so that next t...
  22. Job searching while under investigation

Resign. And in my personal experience, I would email your resignation to your boss after letting them know in person that you plan to resign that way there is proof that you resigned and gave a proper 2 weeks. I didn't do that with one of my jobs and...
  23. That makes sense. I ran with the first line that said she got a text but it would make sense that the manager texted requesting a phone call. In that case OP I would see what the manager wants to discuss and make sure you are somewhere private when y...
  24. Legally speaking, I would imagine this would be a huge hippa violation. I'll admit I've discussed a patient with my manager via text. She was asking about an incident and I did feel comfortable discussing it via text because I trusted her. But you're...
  25. Really not appreciating the attitude today

That sounds like a dream come true. We have 900 MS students and there's a lot of behavior issues here. The old nurse used to let anybody come and just hang out here. NOPE! Not me. I'm prioritizing my asthmatics, diabetics, ill, or injured students. ...
