Professional Nursing Organizations

Published

I am a new ADN graduate seeking my BSN, and I need some help with an assignment. I recently moved to the state, and despite my (near-constant) job searching I have yet to land employment. That being said, my instructor asked us to interview a nurse who belongs to a professional nursing organization. Its just a few quick questions. If you could answer, I would be so appreciative!

*What is the name of the professional nursing organization?

*What is the focus of the organization? What are its goals?

*What is the rationale for joining the organization? In other words, why would a nurse want to be

a member of this particular organization?

*When and where does the organization meet? For how long? How frequently?

I belong to AORN (Assocation of Peri-Operative Registered Nurses). Their mission is "to promote safety and optimal outcomes for patients undergoing operative and other invasive procedures by providing practice support and professional development opportunities to perioperative nurses. AORN will collaborate with professional and regulatory organizations, industry leaders, and other health care partners who support the mission.' Their goals are to be "the indispensable resource for evidence-based practice and education that establishes the standards of excellence in the delivery of perioperative nursing care." The reason I joined this organization was to be kept up-to-date in my field of practice and to network within my community of other peri-operative nurses. Every chapter of AORN meets on different days and times but my chapter meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month and we discuss and/or have a lecture about current topics. The meeting usually last about one hour to ninety minutes.

thank you so much!
