  1. We lost our Neptunes more than a few months ago due to the recall or should I say to a stupid mistake!!!???!!! We are now using the Stryker suctions but of course we had to complete an inservice as well :)
  2. I belong to AORN (Assocation of Peri-Operative Registered Nurses). Their mission is "to promote safety and optimal outcomes for patients undergoing operative and other invasive procedures by providing practice support and professional development opportunities to perioperative nurses. AORN will collaborate with professional and regulatory organizations, industry leaders, and other health care partners who support the mission.' Their goals are to be "the indispensable resource for evidence-based practice and education that establishes the standards of excellence in the delivery of perioperative nursing care." The reason I joined this organization was to be kept up-to-date in my field of practice and to network within my community of other peri-operative nurses. Every chapter of AORN meets on different days and times but my chapter meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month and we discuss and/or have a lecture about current topics. The meeting usually last about one hour to ninety minutes.
  3. Our facility here in Tampa has recently adopted the new AORN recommended practices regarding this manner. But it seems that the nurses, scrub techs and PCAs are strictly being monitored by our clinical education specialist and manager while the anesthesia department is NOT being monitored at all. When JHACO came through two weeks ago EVERYONE was adhering to the new policy but as soon as they left you can guess what happened. We have been provided disposable scrub jackets but they never have any sizes other small and 2XL.... They even took away the mens "skull caps" and they unfortunately have no choice but to wear the bouffant caps. The only EBP articles they have provided us have been from the 1970s and no others! Either way, whether or not we have disposable this or that, who is REALLY watching us is US! We must in good faith and diligence wear our jackets, hats and scrubs once and throw away.... if we all did this I do not think we would have a problem.
