prob's w/dean of nursing

Anyone find there to be no help for unfairness d/t the fact that the dean of nursing is so close to all of the instructors? I haven't personally, but I have witnessed so many students in my class recieve unfair punishment or be unjustly failed. It is very frustrating to feel that you cannot tell your side of the story or at least know the instructor in question will be at least asked about the situation or reprimanded if needed. I feel like all the nursing admistrators/teachers all have their own little club and basically just sit around and talk about how we all think they are so unfair and isn't cute or funny how we get so frustrated so easily, blah blah blah. Im sure they do get a lot of trivial complaints from frustrated students but when it is something serious, it seems they just don't even listen to begin with. I am feeling very angry right now and really needed to vent this frustration. A friend just failed clinical b/c the instructor just didn't like her. No examples given whatsoever. She said she was unethical, unprofessional and unsafe. Very stong accusations to not back up. this student happens to be about the sweetest girl you could ever know. She is very kind, loving and professional. She does have some anxiety issues performing skills, but has never endangered anyone's safety. Never in a million years would i forsee anyone feeling she was unethical in any way shape or form or unprofessional for that matter. Very upset about this. Thanks for any feedback.

Our NS has a student advocate that is on staff to help students with any problem even with faculty. Do you guys have anything like that?

I am a professional Health Care Administrator and student nurse (BSN). Sometimes it feels like the administration does not listen to anyone else, all they do is hand out judgements. Well, I can say I see both sides and the administration side you need to remain focused as your dealing with all kinds of human resource issues.

From a student side it seems like some people get away with all kinds of things and others well, you sneeze wrong and you will get kicked out.

I do know most teachers do not sit around talking about their students and I attend a small nursing school so this could happen easily. Most nursing instructors are working hard to shuffle students through to the next semester. They simply do not have the time.

All schools must have a council of government I believe this is an accrediation mandate. I urge you to become involved, you could make a difference in your educational experience. It is a chance to teach your instructors as well.

My belief is it is all in our attitudes. Abe Linclon once said Most folks are about as happy as they make their minds up to be.

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! No, it isnt fair and the program is negatively affected. Honestly, I have no respect for that particular program director. Talk about a FLAKE!
