Problems with agency/staff paycheck?

Published

:devil:Good evening,

I am just so frustrated with the new agency I am working for. They can't get my paycheck right. And if I call about my check I might get attitude from someone in the payroll department. They did not tell me that the hospital requires two signatures if you have to stay over so if I am on the fifth floor I have to go to the first floor to get a second signature. And if the supervisors are not there, then I have to go to the staffing office to call them and then they come. But before they came today, the supervisor told me that I have to call ahead of time to let them know that I have to stay over. I told her that the agency never told me that. Question: How is a nurse suppose to know if she has to stay over ahead of time especially in a hospital where an emergency might kick off at the last minute? I am just so fed up with always having to deal with this BS and jumping through hoops for money that is rightfully mine! Does anyone else have this issue with being agency and/or staff? I also went through this with working on staff. I hate this industry sometimes.

I find that it's just the status quo. No one really seems to know except the bean-counters and the lawyers that draw up the contracts.

Just be flexible in some instances and set boundaries on others. Get the signatures you need. Let your charge nurse know you can't be held over unless approved. Put it squarely on your charge nurse's shoulders or you leave on time, period. ( you're not staff after all ). Don't let them jerk you around.

If your agency is messing you around with pay..sign up with another. There are plenty out there to chose from. I found my agency was paying me wrong, so I switched..easy!

What company are you having these problems with?

Unfortunately, I have signed up for so many that are not professional in getting back to me or they try to give me assignments in states I can not go to. Could I please have the number to your agency? Thanks.

Slow down! Let me give you another perspective. The Federal govt has a Labor dept that makes up payroll rules, not the hospital. Unless you clock in and out correctly the payroll dept has no way of knowing if they are paying the right person the right amount. Rather than break the law (protecting you, by the way) they may withhold payment till all the paperwork is correct. Our facility requires the House Sup to sign, or the Charge nurse, or the unit Director OR the CNO and yes, she has done that. As for how are you supposed to know - the hospital should be providing each agency nurse with orientation. Perhaps you need to review the orientation or tell your agency you need more information. As for BS, we feel the same way when agency nurses do not follow the policies because we now have to spend OUR productive time making sure the right nurse got paid the right amount. It requires cooperation from both parties.

I understand where you are coming from but this is not the issue here. My agency sent me to hospital orientation and ALL we were told by the agency staff member at the hospital orientation is that we have two have two signatures. Nothing else. It was news to me yesterday that it had to be a particular signature.

Yes there are federal labor laws but those laws do not give the hospital license to make it difficult for staff or agency to get paid. Only cowards hide behind rules, regulations, and policies when they are not trying to do the right thing by their employees. This same hospital was in the newspaper because their OWN NURSES walked out and were on strike because they were not getting their money.

(NURSE) you have to (FINDERS). get it? And I was talking to another nurse and I found out that I am not the only one. Their may be a whole lot of other nurses.

You missed my point. We do not TRY to make it difficult. There are rules we have to abide by. It is in our best interest to make sure you do get your $ so your agency will continue to work with us. But the problem is complex. We have some of the same agency nurses returning who refuse to sign their time sheet, clock in or get a signature, then complain about their pay. We cannot guess who worked when. If you want to be proactive, get your agency to work with the hospital to develop a better plan, but please be able to suggest a better plan.

Understood. Thanks for the clarification.
