friend had great pay and decent experience
Bagladyrn, I agree that their are some honest recruiters. I was speaking in general in reference to the fact they are like vultures. Agencies are a big business and unfortunately you have those who will do whatever it takes to make the money. And from what I hear and know, it is usually at the expense of the nurses.

How mature of you Tango. It sounds like to me you are actually a recruiter posing as a nurse. You should find something better to do with your time than coming on here and attacking nurses. How sad. I will keep you in my prayers.

You misunderstood me. I meant let us nurses be nice to one another. The recruiters are out for themselves. In my opinion, they are lions waiting to pounce. How horrible.

Let's be nice to one another. This is a forum to help not hurt.

Travelers out there pls help out this novice traveler wannabe.
It does not sound reasonable. California is very expensive - PERIOD! I think you should shop around at other agencies. Please be patient and wait on God to give you what is BEST for you. Some of these companies do not have your best interest at heart.

Need some travel advice from black nurses
Have you thought about going into the government hospitals?

It's better to laugh than to cry. I am glad that you have a sense of humor.

What do YOU think? Contract Question(s)!
You need to only work 36 hours if they are not willing to give you the overtime. If it does not say they will pay OT in your contract, don't do it. It sounds like they are trying to use you. Always with the slick stuff, these companies!

Military hospitals? Advice please.
Thanks! How would you say the training was? How were the shifts (i.e. 8, 12)? Were there opportunities for advancement?

That's right! If you allow it, they will stretch you thin!

Travel RN jobs with minimal experience
You are most welcomed! When I was a new RN, the first one coupled my 4 months of LPN experience with my then 3 months RN experience. They only required 6 months experience then. Even though it is mostly long term care (nursing homes), they pay at least $35 per hour and you are constantly working. Not to fail to mention, the facilities' employees usually don't have a problem with showing you around and helping you. The second one can "try to push you through" if you at least have the basics (i.e. medication administration, assessments, etc.). If you come to the D.C. area and find a cheap place to stay, I would advise you to apply as local because you will get $40 per hour during the week and $45 per hour on the weekend . If you apply as a travel contract, you will get way less! Take care and I hope everything works out for you.

I am considering working in a military hospital. Just wanted to know if anyone has worked in this environment and if so, what are the pros and cons of this type of environment?

Lateral violence from manager
It sounds like she black balled you. Nursing is 98% FEMALE. I say female because not everyone is a woman. Very vicious indeed of her to do this.
