  1. Bagladyrn, I agree that their are some honest recruiters. I was speaking in general in reference to the fact they are like vultures. Agencies are a big business and unfortunately you have those who will do whatever it takes to make the money. And from what I hear and know, it is usually at the expense of the nurses.
  2. How mature of you Tango. It sounds like to me you are actually a recruiter posing as a nurse. You should find something better to do with your time than coming on here and attacking nurses. How sad. I will keep you in my prayers.
  3. You misunderstood me. I meant let us nurses be nice to one another. The recruiters are out for themselves. In my opinion, they are lions waiting to pounce. How horrible.
  4. Let's be nice to one another. This is a forum to help not hurt.
  5. It does not sound reasonable. California is very expensive - PERIOD! I think you should shop around at other agencies. Please be patient and wait on God to give you what is BEST for you. Some of these companies do not have your best interest at heart.
  6. Have you thought about going into the government hospitals?
  7. It's better to laugh than to cry. I am glad that you have a sense of humor.
  8. You need to only work 36 hours if they are not willing to give you the overtime. If it does not say they will pay OT in your contract, don't do it. It sounds like they are trying to use you. Always with the slick stuff, these companies!
  9. Thanks! How would you say the training was? How were the shifts (i.e. 8, 12)? Were there opportunities for advancement?
  10. Preach nurse, preach!!!
  11. That's right! If you allow it, they will stretch you thin!
  12. You are most welcomed! When I was a new RN, the first one coupled my 4 months of LPN experience with my then 3 months RN experience. They only required 6 months experience then. Even though it is mostly long term care (nursing homes), they pay at least $35 per hour and you are constantly working. Not to fail to mention, the facilities' employees usually don't have a problem with showing you around and helping you. The second one can "try to push you through" if you at least have the basics (i.e. medication administration, assessments, etc.). If you come to the D.C. area and find a cheap place to stay, I would advise you to apply as local because you will get $40 per hour during the week and $45 per hour on the weekend . If you apply as a travel contract, you will get way less! Take care and I hope everything works out for you.
  13. I am considering working in a military hospital. Just wanted to know if anyone has worked in this environment and if so, what are the pros and cons of this type of environment?
  14. a few numbers: 888-355-8877 301-585-6347
  15. It sounds like she black balled you. Nursing is 98% FEMALE. I say female because not everyone is a woman. Very vicious indeed of her to do this.
  16. Lol! This is an industry that if you do not stand up for yourself, you will get used.
  17. Thanks right! Stand your ground!
  18. Maryland. I know that their are agencies that staff in my area.
  19. I have been working for this agency for a little over a month. I am having too many problems with getting paid correctly. Anyone whom has experienced this knows how frustrating and aggravating it is. Can someone please give me some numbers to good agencies and/or hospitals? Thanks in advance.
  20. Yes you did give some good advice. But I was not referrring to the blood incident because that is a patient safety issue - no ifs ands or buts about. There were other things I felt were knick picking. Because she is new and a professional, it is best to address the issue with the newbie first instead of going to the higher ups. Even with nurses whom have been nurses for a while should be given the benefit of the doubt. None of us are perfect and we will continue to make mistakes.
  21. Just to give a quick update, I finally spoke with the unit director and I did an excellent job of covering my a**. If I have to work tomorrow, I plan to get the missing documentation completed ASAP. I will also print it out so I have proof of completion.
  22. I am glad you see things they way they are. Unfortunately many Whites I have encountered don't understand racism and make light of it.
  23. Please find a job somewhere else. These residents are set in their ways and will not change and the management will not make them behave because "the customer is allways right." Sounds like a modern day plantation to me.
  24. You are correct.
  25. handyRN you are SO right. I just decided that even if it means I am a little late with giving medications that I better do all my information in the computer first. Sounds crazy but I noticed other nurses do the same. At least you can cover your a$$ this way. I don't know. It is just a work in progress. The more unnecessary documentation, the worst it is.
