Hello all,
How likely are the Atlanta area hospitals to hire a med surg nurse into an ICU prn? All experiences welcome. Please share.
How likely is it for a med-surg nurse to get hired into a prn icu position? Does anyone have any experience with this? Please share.

I cannot speak for GA ICU's but most ICU's want their PRN staff to be experienced so they can jump in PRN quickly. PRN spots are usually premium pay and they pay for experience.
I wish you the best.
Thank you Esme. I appreciate your feedback.

No experience with it, but I would guess it would be unlikely. All per diem nurses on my unit already had critical care experience. I went through orientation with a nurse transferring from med-surg, and her orientation was almost as long as the new grad orientation (4 months full time vs. 6).
Have you considered switching to a full-time ICU position, and remaining in med surg PRN?
