Private Pay Home Health Care

Has anyone had any experience with private pay home health services? I am looking to open a private pay/insurance pay private duty company. I am currently working on getting my certification to bill Medicaid/Medicare which takes since months in the state of MO. However, to open a private pay company there is no cert. needed. I am trying to find out if any other nurses have had some success with private pay and if you have any advice for someone just getting into the home care business. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My suspicion is that private pay for anyone long term involves the very rich only. The chances of landing such a gig are probably lower than being struck by lightning. Any short term private pay jobs will not be steady enough to pay your rent.

There are a few here in MO I used to work for one that is still up and thriving. Which is where I got the idea but thanks anyway I'm looking for people who are doing it because it can be done.

Good luck! Of course it can be done, but it is not a viable business plan for an agency of one.

Hi Ms Walker, I am an LPN and looking to do the same coupled with medicaid pts to provide limited care. Ive also applied for my missouri medicaid number. Maybe we can do this journey together and then go our separate ways?

I think there may be some meat to this. It would depend on the area you plan to serve and how you market yourself. Here in Nashville, there are some areas that cater to the music (higher money) crowd...and yes, they will pay for help!
