Hello does anyone know if prisons hire lpn's? I'm currently working at a rehab in san bernardino county and would like to move to prison not just for the pay but for experience. Dont have that much experience and I consider my myself as a new grad since I just graduated and started wrking a month ago. Any advice if prisons will take lvn new grads in southern ca or at least in san bernardino county? Thanks

I'm pretty sure they do, at least in my area. I work at a local jail, but have seen ads for other jails and also a prison up in Mich. The jail is ok, but I'm not sure I would want to work in a prison. It can also be very stressful (as can all nursing jobs). Where I work, they are very cost-conscious and still have'nt gotten in FT even though they offered it to me a couple months ago and they don't always give you all your PTO time. For these reasons, I'm thinking of looking for another LCT facility (though I don't want to) or maybe going back to school to get my RN...

Try the GEO group which hires for prisons. They are in most states and you can find them online.

The California Department of Corrections directly hires LVNs at very competitive pay rates and with excellent benefits. However, be prepared for a very lengthy hiring process that could consume several months.
Go online to your Dept of Corrections for your state and click on careers and follow links. Also, your state may be the one that hires the LPNs for the prisons and you can find jobs by googling your states health dept or such like.
