Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Residency

Hello NP students!

If any of you are interested in VA residencies, I am currently in the Gainesville, FL one. So far, I am learning a lot and I am grateful for the opportunity to strengthen my clinical skills.

Don't worry if you don't plan to stay in the area; it won't hurt your chances. I am returning back home at the end of September and I am currently trying to network my way into a VA job. But if you do decide to stay, you will definitely have a job once you finish the program.

If any of you are interested, please go to https://www.VA.gov/north-florida-health-care/work-with-us/internships-and-fellowships/

Thank you?

OK great thanks. It appears I have to make a few more posts before I can send a direct message. Not sure if you're able to message me? Anyways, I have a few questions regarding your Gainesville experience. Thank you!

Any chance that you were accepted into the Gainesville residency for august? I applied to the two VA residences in Florida for this year!

Hello to everyone,

I have been considering VA fellowship upon completion of my program.  I have been unable to obtain any information regarding how much time do you have to give back after the fellowship?  When I started out in nursing 12 years ago, I chose to accept a position that had a nurse residency program.  After orientation, nurses had to fulfill 3 years with the hospital to avoid paying back the training received that could vary from $5k (med/surg), $10k (step-down), or $15k (ICU/ER).  I am curious after the fellowship, how many years, if any, does one have to commit or "give back?"

You are not required to work for the VA system after the fellowship as you are not guaranteed a job with the VA. I've heard they help you find placement the best they can, but seems like many still find it difficult to find a job post residency
