Preventing needlesticks in your feet:

What shoes do you wear to prevent this? I was thinking of wearing the Sika Footwear shoes because they look tough and a lot of nurses wear them. http://sikafootwear.ca/

lol

Thanks guys. A used needle in a Hep C, HIV positive patient dropped near my feet last weekend. Scared the living cr*p out of me!

I like you...you don't get all bent out of shape at a little teasing :D

I can see what that scared you...but if you think about it that needle could also get you in the leg and you can't go around wearing a hazmat suit with a chainmail shark suit over it to protect *everything*. Well, I guess you could but you'd scare all the patients then :D

Just be careful...and pray.

The issue of proper shoes goes beyond possible needle sticks. Get some shoes with excellent arch support that fit your feet. You have to live with them for twelve or more hours at a time. Something that provides protection from foreign objects is a definite consideration. I have some shoes that do not work well for 10-12 hours on my feet, while some others (decent quality sneakers) work great. Keep in mind that even the best quality sneakers (they used to be called that, but as the prices went up, they became known as all sorts of fancy names) are worthless for support after about six months.

Whatever you choose, treat them as appropriate when new to prevent staining and water (?) damage, and they will serve you well.

Ouch!!!

Why would a needle be anywhere near your feet?

The nurse dropped the syringe she was holding.
