I have to do a project about the pathophysiology and manifestations of altered level of consciousness. I want to do something different. Everyone did powerpoint and its soooo boring. Literally everyone in class is sleeping, including the teacher. I wanted to do something like a video (sketch?), maybe act it out? I don't know how we would act out the PP and manifestations. I want it to be fun and would like to add some humor but I can't think of anything for the life of me! Any ideas?

how many people in your group? We had a Patho project that was similar and with 4 people we did it like something you may see on a medical TV show... have a patient and a lead nurse.. the rest can be around the patient and answering questions while attempting to figure out what's wrong with the patient.. the lead nurse can question about the specific patho as to why a particular problem may cause the altered LOC.. what assessments can be performed to check for those problems.. what interventions can be carried out.. etc..
Do it not teaching the class.. but rather as if the rest of the class is not there rather they are eavesdropping on your conversation.. and have power point slides only to highlight specific information such as the patho trees..
Worked well for us and got high marks and great remarks for creativity from the instructor.
Best of luck.

And you could even have the PP slides flashing on the screen behind the "bedside" as a reinforcer. Your choice as to whether the "instructor" stops the proceedings prn to point out something there -- to the "students" or the audience -- or just leaves them unsaid so the audience integrates them. Jazzy!

Another idea - find a way to simulate for the students in the room some of the manifestations of altered LOC. I mean, a way to show them what it would feel like to HAVE this altered LOC. Not sure if there is an example out there, but google is a marvelous tool to find them...
I did one in developmental psych class to simulate for people what it feels like to be on the autism spectrum while in a traditional lecture class. We had a student play the "teacher" and be up front, lecturing and writing on the board. The actual student sat in the middle and tried to take notes. Someone sat on one side of the student, reading out loud from an unrelated text, and another person sat on the other side of the student, playing music from their cell phone. This was supposed to simulate what the sensory overload in a classroom can feel like to a person on the autism spectrum.
Just another idea! Good luck on your presentation and let us know how it turns out!
