Prerequisite count from a previous degree?

I am planning to do nursing as I could never find a job with my other degree. I studied music as an undergrad from 2003-2007. One of my classes was general psychology which I took probably in 2004. What is your experience with second degrees, are schools accepting these classes so long as you took it? Or does it have to be within 5 years? I do not what to finish my other prereqs this fall and then have a school tell me they can't accept the credit because it's too old. So I'm wondering if I should just do It again. What are your experiences?

There are only certain classes, usually the science courses, that have to be within five (or some other time frame) years. Some schools may have another course or two, that fit into this category, they will be listed in their requirements. I have seen at least one program that required general psych to be recent. You will need to check for specifics with the program(s) you are interested in.

It depends on the school. I would definitely check with the school before wasting time and money on a class you don't need to re-take. At my school, the only classes with an expiration date were lab sciences (A&Ps, microbio...) which couldn't be more than 5 years old...and then one computer class that couldn't be more than 10 years old. I looked into another school with a longer list of classes that expire (they also included stats and some sort of human growth/development class) but you had 7 years instead of 5. So I am guessing it varies quite a bit. Your general psych is probably still okay, though.

I took two psychology courses in 2004 and my school is accepting those transfer credits. The nursing program I am applying for however will not accept my biology and microbiology credits from 2004 because they are more than five years old.

Best of luck to you!!
