Hi Everyone,
I'm starting from scratch- 48 years old with an 8th grade education! My writing/reading skills are quite good, but my math skills were horrible but Im,working on improving them. Currently I'm waiting to take the HiSet test in order to begin this journey. I've learned a lot of math on various websites, and the HiSet pretest proclaims me "well prepared". Not so sure about that, but I'll find out! I've started studying Biology 101, and beginner A&P. Basic stuff that most HS freshman probably know these days!
I've raised my two kids, am married and in a situation that allows me to work only about 20 hours a week. Time to stop talking about becoming a nurse and do it! I did take the CNA course in 2013, and am working as a "direct care counselor"- this involves the usual CNA tasks plus passing meds (I'm MAP certified), G-tube/J-tube feeding/meds, neb treatments, catheter and ostomy care, and basic skin integrity/minor decubitus ulcer management. I absolutely love my job. My goal would be to eventually become one of the nurses they have on staff at my company or a similar company, or to be a hospice nurse. I know that an LPN license will not offer me as many opportunities as an RN, but I think it would be wise to get my LPN and go from there. I don't aspire to work in a hospital or make tons of $$- although a bit more than I make now would be nice lol.
Now that I've written a novel, does anyone have any advice as to any prereq's I should be taking? Anything at all that could be helpful- words or advice or warning are all good ☺. My plan is to get my HiSet, apply at my local community college where if accepted, I'll get waitlisted. I've been practicing the TEAS and I do well in everything but math and science- which are pretty important for nursing 😕.
Thanks in advance!

Congratulations on choosing this path! It's very exciting when you finally figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life :)
What are the requirements for the program you wish to apply for? Generally, prerequisites for LPN programs include biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, psychology, sometimes microbiology. And of course, the basics: basic math, english, etc. Talk to an advisor at your school and they'll be able to point you in the right direction.
