I am currently 20 weeks pregnant with my second child. My first is 13 and I am also umeployed right now. I want to take A&P 1+2 during summer session at the local college which is about 15 minutes away by bus. I tried to take A&P1 and Chemistry at a CC about 1 hour away from my house last spring semester but I had to drop both classes because I was working 40 hours a week at a super stressful job and I had to take one class on Sat and one on Sun and they lasted pretty much all day long with lab, so I had no days off. Also at the time my DH was my live in bf and he wasn't really making very much money so I couldn't cut my hours at work. After a few weeks I realized that I wasn't going to do well in either class and I withdrew rather than get a bad grade. So now I am still at square one but I do already have a BA so I am hoping to do a second degree BSN.
My DH, my mom and other memebers of my family seem to think that I am crazy for wanting to go to school during the summer. I finally got DH to agree that doing the first summer session which is from 6/5-7/5 won't kill me. However, he thinks that I shouldn't do the second session which will last until 8/08.
I am due on 8/28 btw.
I think that doing it in the summer when I have no job and nothing to do all day is perfect. My son is 13 and independent and I have been sitting home for the past month doing very little and going nuts! I will have all day to study as much as I want too. By Sept I will have a newborn and definitely will not be taking any classes in the fall. If I get A&P out of the way I only have to do micro and nutrition because I found a school that will accept my chem from more than 5 years ago.
Am I setting myself up to fail? What would you do? I am kind of frustrated because I am being treated like an invalid.

If you have the will power than do it. You have to stay focus!! A&P is a very hard course and I couldn't imagine taking it accelerated like that. However that will be the only course and you don't have a job so it should be ok. My only thing is that you are pregnant and with pregnancy comes dr. appts and those yucky days. Plus it's gonna be hot out(i hated being pregnant in the summer.) You will also have to be around a cadaver, they have mask for that but you can still get a little weezy.
It all boils down to the type of person you are and if you have support. A person like me would not be able to do it b/c I need a break from time to time. Plus I think it will be cutting it close to your due date (the baby might come early)
In my personal experience, I got pregnant during my senior year of high school. My determinatin to graduate with honors help put me through school. Also I went to college right after I graduated. Walking around campus actually help me dialate. My due date was 8/6 but he came out 7/12. His early arrival was kinda good b/c I had time to get use to him before school started about a month later.
I also had a friend who went into labor the day of her final exam. The teachers took points off since she didn't make it. For one exam, she had to wait about a month later to take it b/c the teacher had other stuff planned.
Hope this helps and congrats on your new baby.

You should be just fine....I went to school during the summer when I was pregnant, my only other son was also 13 at that time and it worked out just great!!!! I had so much energy once I got over the morning sickness and that happened right before the summer semester started. I also went during the fall semester and did just wonderful....If anything happens you could always opt for an imcomplete grade and finish it up later.
A&P are demanding classes but I am confident that you will do just fine! Go for it because the baby will be here before you know it
My two are 14 yaers apart, the youngest is now 8.
I got two replies one says yes and the other says no. I'm still confused...maybe I should do the first session and see if I can do the A&P2 in the Spring.
Yeah you should take the first part and see how that goes. I think taking the second part would be cutting it a little too close. At the end of the day, it depends on what you want and what you can handle. Good Luck!

One of my frnd she had biol189 in last summer and can u believe it she left the college at 6:00pm on her due date and on the same nite she gave birth to her daughter. so everything will b fine donot be frustrate, it s not good for baby, just calm down , i also have two classes A&P and Eng101. we will do it dont worry.

I took both a+p courses over the summer, 5 weeks each. Yes, they are difficult. You may not feel the greatest w/ the smells of either the cat or cadaver you must dissect. However, I think it will be easier for you to do it pregnant and have all the time in the world to study. It would be hard to take those courses while having a new little one. Your mind will be on the little one, not school. You already know how busy you will be with a baby since you have a kid and went through it. Its your decision- two hard courses with a baby, being up at night with the baby and having little sleep or free time, or taking them without the responsibilities of having a baby, but possibly feeling yucky. Plus you will need to find childcare while you are in class. Just something to think about.
We are due on the same day! Congrats to you too!
Thanks everyone I feel a bit more confident. Now, I hope the class doesn't fill up before I can register for it.
