I was just wondering if anyone out there has any advice/insight on getting or being pregnant during nursing school. I have just started school (1 month ago) and my husband and I really want a 3rd child. I would wait until I get done with school, but I want to get a job right away, and also I will be pushing 30 and as my personal preference, I want to be done having children by age 30. I am wanting other people's opinions and/or experience with pregnancy during school. Is there a good time to do it? Is it better in the beginning than towards then end? Thank you in advance for your input!

Recently, I read Diary of a Midwife by Julia Van Olphen-Fehr she is a CNM. In the first chapter she tells about her first born childs birth and going through nursing school. The child was breast fed and she talks about witchy head nurse causing her numerous pumping problems.
If you made up your mind to become a nurse you'll do everything possible to obtain that goal. As long as its a feasible goal. Now you may not be likely to become president or an astronaut but if you are determined a nursing career is difeinatly within your grasp. Pregnant or otherwise.
Keep in mind what is best for you and your family.
GOOD LUCK!

I have to be honest, it may be difficult, but if this is what you wish to do, then, the way will open. Nursing school is physically demanding for the person who is not pregnant, running to clinicals, doing performance evaluations, labs, exams...doing so when pregnant may really be challenging. I had a classmate who had a cesearean the week before finals during fundamentals of nursing and had to come back to complete the days of clinicals that she missed and to take finals. Had only two weeks off before med-surg started. But, she did do it. If you are taking pre-requisites at this time, that may be best before you dive into nursing.

I have two children and started school when my first son was 10 months old. I had my second son in the middle of my ADN program. I am about to finish my BSN in 3 weeks (yeah!), but must admit my husband has been a wonderful team player. He helps with everything. My kids love the fact that we both take care of them and have really divided the chores, etc. It can work with a good support system. Good luck!
