Pregnancy and nursing school

There are 3 students in my class that are anywhere from 5-7 months pregnant...but we are also about to graduate in less than two months so it probably wouldn't affect these women as much as say, someone in their first semester. It may be smart to bring it to your professors and advisor's attention sooner than later...it may effect your clinical attendance negatively. You might have to take a leave of absence and not graduate with your peers. I don't have any kids, so I can't add any personal experience...

School and pregnany are completely doable, however it is added work and added pressure.

I second being proactive, talk with your instructors and director or department head (whatever they call the person one step up from your teacher).

From the perspective of an instructor, students have children during nursing school and usually make it work. We don't always get to plan it in advance but best case scenario would be having the baby during a school break. This is almost no disruption to your schooling.

For due dates during the semester our program will sometimes let students "frontload" clinicals, meaning the student takes extra clinicals early in the semester in order to be able to not have scheduled clinicals around their due date. Depending on your due date and the program, worst case scenario would be to take a semester off and then come back.

its doable but timing is of the essence. remember, keep yourself clean of booze & drugs, and smoking during the 9 months. Give the kid a chance because everything you take in, the kid gets.
