Preceptorship suggestions?

I'm getting set to register for the LAST term of my ADN program then graduation in June!!!

Anyway, we're submitting our preferences for spring term preceptorship. We have to do 19 shifts with an RN the first six weeks of the term. Any recommendations from you L&D nurses as to what area would be the most beneficial to do a preceptorship in preparation of working in L&D (hopefully) that would also look good on a resume? I can't do L&D as my preceptorship, but I will be doing a coop there the last 4 weeks of the term.

Anything maternity related would help. My votes would be post partum/ante partum, newborn nursery or gyne.

I agree with fergus. IF You are in a hospital where L and D and postpartum/mother-baby are separate, then I would get my preceptorship in the area of my choice......

So do you want L and D or do you want mother-baby? Almost always, given a choice, the best way to go is to start in mother-baby. Not cause it's easier, IT IS NOT---but the pace IS slower, giving you time to learn more.

I learned in LDRP concept, so I had to learn it all at once. It's tough to do, but you can do it, obviously. I did.

I graduated last year. I couldn't get a L&D, PP preceptorship because I didn't obtain NRP quick enough (a requirement at our school). I ended up doing my senior preceptorship on an Onco/Med-Surg floor and I don't regret it. Gave me an opportunity to work on my organizational skills managing 5 patients, practice giving report and getting comfortable phoning the docs etc....
