I'm taking my pre-reqs at a local college that does not have a nursing program. Will the courses be any different than if I had taken them at a school with a nursing focus? This school does have a pre-med track though.

It's not to say that they will be different, but you will want to verify that they will transfer to the nursing school that you will be applying to. Our school offers only 1 biology course for all majors and it still transfers to other schools in the area. They are switching it next year so that they have a separate biology course for those entering a medical field. Everyone else will take a separate biology course which will now be a 2 semester course, so that it transfers easier to a 4 yr University. Currently we have to take zoology if we want our biology to transfer to a 4 yr University. It really just depends on your transfering school.

I took anatomy and physiology at a college that did not have a nursing program. Last semester I was taking anatomy at a school with a nursing program. I find the school with the nursing program was more helpful to methan the school without the nursing program. The professor main focused was in nursing, example, when we did the endocrine system, she focuced on all the diseases associated with the system. She focused on genetics, arterial blood gas, signs and symptoms for various diseases. I felt like I was in a whole different class from the previous one. The professor would tell us what the nclex entails, for instance normal values. I believe I am very prepare for nursing in the fall.

What I also learned, the college without the nursing program thought all types of areas in Anatomy including animals because they were people who were studying other areas, such as zoology, medical technology ect.

Update: I found out that the classes I need for nursing school are *not* offered at this university. So I'll have to start all over with another place. Hope it's not too late to get in for September.... Also I'm not going full time so that makes me ineligible for aid.... :o

Hi Chaya, even if you are a part-time student you may still be eligible for federal grant money. You just have to put on your application for aid that you'll be part-time, 3/4ths, or whatever.
