I'm not in California, but I did want to stop in and add:

check with the RN program you want to apply to. Can't stress this enough. Your nursing school likely has prerequisite criteria and a specific course track or recommended curriculum. Going to their open house - even just to get acquainted and ask some questions - or soliciting some advice from an academic adviser at the college or program may clear up your questions in short order.

I say this only because I've found some college-affiliated programs will not accept online courses for credit, particularly if they require a lab, (chemistry, biology, micro, so on.) Accreditation may be a concern. Some four-year colleges won't accept online courses for transfer credit. To add insult to injury, we couldn't even test out, (CLEP), out of basic courses for science or math where I went to school. Not to mention - our local community college courses were a fraction of the price of an online class to begin with.

Get the specifics, then plan!

Good luck!

if you want online, you will find they are VERY expensive usually. I took 1 pre-req online through the community college which was inexpensive but most pre-reqs have a lab involved so you have to go in person (biology, microbiology, A&P). You can do them as night classes if you work during the day.

edukan.org offers online classes through Kansas community colleges. They do not show up on your transcript as "online" but rather just as a class through one of the community colleges. I don't know if you have to pay out of state tuition or not, but I bet it'd still be pretty reasonable.

I have heard great things about edukan.
