pre-pre-pre student looking for assistance with nursing school/career planning

Published

hello everyone...i'm new here (this is my first post).

what a wonderful resource this site is - SO MUCH information. it almost makes my head spin! i am in the very early stages...doing research to find out what the best path to nursing is for me and when i can start on my education. i have a BS degree already (but it's in a business field), so i'm thinking BSN would be a good idea as i could probably do it in 2 years if i go FT. (well, i guess 3 years including the pre-reqs like A&P, chem, microbio, etc.).

can anyone point me in the direction of a thread here on or any other sites that might help me with my research? what i'm specifically looking for is:

-an acronym list for all the different kind of designations i.e. RN, LPN, CNA, BSN, CNM, etc.

-a good site to research programs/universities

-a good site to research nursing salary/career info

T-I-A! (thanks in advance!)

I don't now of any good sites but i can tell you that

R.N= Registered Nurse

L.P.N= Licensed Practical Nurse, in some parts of the country they are called L.V.N= Licensed Vocational Nurse, i like LVN much better i wished they were called that everywhere

C.N.A= Certified Nurses Aide/Assistant

B.S.N= Bachelors Of Science Nursing

C.N.M= Certified Nurse Midwife

Specializes in Oncology, OR.

thank you both!

tookewlandy, thanks for the acronym clarifications. funny...the only one i didn't know was CNM...and i'm actually interested in OB/GYN/midwifery!

http://www.aacn.nche.edu Since you alreay have a Bachelor's degree, check out the accelerated programs and the direct-entry Master's programs at that site as well as the traditional programs.
