Stay a medical assistant or go in more debt by pursuing nursing

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I owe 32,000 from my ba and 9500 more if I sign up for a medical assistant program.

I wanted to pursue nursing and make twice as much

But I owe enough don't you think?

1)Does anyone think, after I get a ma position in a hospital that pays tuition, that I should pursue nursing?

2 ) should I just stick with ma forever?

I'm looking for a way to be able to support myself and it's hard in the 5 boroughs. I'm living from pay check to pay check and I hate my current job ( preschhool )

NR92, you want may to have a realistic talk with yourself. You seem to be a little all over the place, earlier you started you wanted to move out of state for a cheaper living, now your stating you are a major contributor to rent and mom is sick. You have 32,000 in loans and can't stop working while pursuing nursing ( which I totally understand). You want a quick and easy way to get into nursing, there isn't one. Sometimes you either have to sacrifice or put things on the back burner until your in a better situation. I'm also assuming you have not taken science pre reqs before, they are no joke and your grades have to be up to par. We can give you all the suggestions but you have to do what is best for you! Again the quickest way and cheapest way to enter nursing would be doing a 11 month lpn program, there normally isn't any pre reqs for this kind of program. Your other option is pre reqs and then apply to an adn program or bsn. Last but not least pre reqs and then apply to an absn program, which are either affordable and competitive or expensive and easier to get in but these can run anywhere from 50-100k. If you really want to be a nurse, be patience you will get to your destination but there will be adversities.

Think I will just start science pre req in a rn programs I found from cuny. so at least I can find work as an rn and pay off loans more before applying to nursing school . Sounds right guys?

If you go back to school half-time your loans will go back into deferment (assuming you took out federal loans)

not sure if I am understanding you right, but you can't work as an RN until you are done nursing school. You can work as a nurse tech without any training, and could get a look into how hospitals work while taking the pre reqs. I have a previous bachelor's but am going for the ADN RN program at a community college right now, and then will work as an RN while I complete my bachelor's degree. Is that what you were thinking too? It took a year for pre-reqs and then 2 more for nursing school, so it is a long haul, but I should only owe a few thousand when I am done. The accelerated program was going to be $55k and that doesn't include the pre-reqs!

Yeah I'm gonna do the rn, already applied to a bunch of cuny colleges last week

To be honest, you knew you were going for a crappy job from you applied. So just duke it out with it and apply for nursing....sometimes you have to suck salt before you can suck sugar
