Nursing programs

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am helping my niece do research into the nursing career and was hoping to get some information on different nursing schools. Does anyone know where I could find a ranked list of nursing programs, nationwide? I am not trying to ridicule anyone's program but we know that some are better than others I just want to give her as much information as I can.

Thank you for your help.

I'm not a big fan of ranking systems. I think the best place to find out which schools are good is to go to the hiring managers/medical directors of places she may be interested in working and ask what schools they like to hire from and which schools they think prepare students best. You'll find most hiring managers are pretty forthcoming.

I agree with what Mission said. Ask nurse managers (or even just nurses you know) how they feel about the quality of grads from programs near you. Call and ask about things like clinical hours, NCLEX pass rates, student retention rates, admission stats, etc.

Good luck! :)

I agree that asking others is the best way to find out also. Before I applied to my school, I called the director of nursing recruitment at the largest hospital in our area, and she was EXTREMELY helpful. She spent a long time talking with me (which I really appreciated) and was very honest about the local nursing programs. I'm very glad I called her before I made my decision!
