I stocked the med fridge with pop....

  1. Yesterday I was volunteering at the hospital. I've been there over a year now but I am usually on the postpartum unit. I made my way to L & D to see if they needed any help because they were swamped. I think they had 10 ladies in labor and 2 births already that morning.

The HUC grabbed me and told me how happy she was to see me and she had tons of things for me to do.... She wisked me into the stock/storage/kitchen room and gave me 4 cases of soda and pointed over towards the refridgerator and asked me to stock the fridge.

So I sat down on a little stool (it was one of those little fridges) and started putting all this pop in there. There were 2 shelves that had epidural bags on them which I thought was strange but oh well....
I got all the pop crammed in there and she comes flying in again...and said

"No No No... That is the med fridge!!" and just started laughing. I was so embarrassed but luckily she said it was her fault because she didn't show me which one to put it in. (I had never been in there before)...She was really nice about it but I felt like an idiot.

Anyway..... after my cheeks stopped flushing... I thought it was pretty funny and was just thankful it happened now while I was volunteering rather than when I'm a student... I can only imagine what they would have said if that were the case...

Thought you all would like a laugh .... anyone else have an embarrassing story to share??? Please.. so I don't feel left out....

    maybe they couldn't read
this is something you will never forget, a day with a lesson learned is a good day

There was no sign on the front of this, but there was some sort of a lock and obviously it didn't work, because I opened the fridge right up...

Like I said, I'm just glad it didn't happen while I was a student....

I volunteered in an ER during high school. One day a post-CPR patient was brought in and placed on a ventilator. Apparently the patient was beginning to "breathe against" the vent and this would set off a loud alarm with each breath. The alarm sounded (to me) like the ringing of a loud phone. After listening to the "phone ring" unanswered for a couple of minutes, I said, "Gee whiz, guys! Want me to grab that call?" The ER nurses all had a good laugh at that one.

I took a job as a CNA in a nursing home when I was in high school. (Back in the day when the nursing home trained you.) My first day on the job, a little old lady came up to me and said, "My daughter is coming to pick me up and take me home. I need to pack and be ready when she gets here. Will you help me?" I found a box, and I helped her to box up all of her clothes, family photos, etc. Just as we were finishing up, a nurse came by and asked what I was doing. I told her, and she took me out into the hall and explained to me that the lady had dementia. I felt like an idiot. I was so embarrassed. At that age, I had never been around anyone with dementia, and I believed everything the woman told me. I also felt like a jerk when I had to unpack all of the woman's stuff and put it back where it came from. I'm sure that nurse thought I was half out of my mind as well.
