Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi There,

Sorry --I tried to post in the Arizona location, but there didn't seem to be any BSN students that are currently active in that forum.

I am working on my prerequisites (changing careers) for ASU. Icannot seem to get much information on realistic GPA requirements ...I have an appointment with an advisor , but not until 11/4......anyone have recent experience with the ASU program...or heard anything?

Thanks...I am not friends with any other nursing students! I have pretty much been relying on any info I can get from the web until I meet with an advisor.

Thanks!

I graduated from ASU in 99, but I think the admission process has changed quite a bit since I was admitted. Just wanted to wish you good luck in the program - I really enjoyed it, and felt like I got a great nursing education. My advice is to just relax until you talk to an advisor, any info you get anywhere else is going to be pretty subjective, and the GPA levels fluctuate from semester to semester.

Thanks for the info....appreciate the response.

You're in Kansas, now? Were you at ASU just for school?

Hi,

I met with an ASU advisor last semetser. They would like to see a GPA of at least 3.5. They base admission on a points system:

Select GPA 3.5-4.0

NET scores

Math 0.65-1.0

Reading 0.60-1.0

Essay 0.00-1.0

The highest score would be 7.0. The cutoff for last semester was 5.8.

The GPA range that is on the checkoff sheet is actually 2.75-4.0 but the advisor I met with crossed that off and said they wouldn't consider anyone that had a GPA under 3.5. If you are a second degree student then you would only need submit 10 of the prereq courses for you "Select GPA" for admission purposes. I believe that ASU holds open advisement one day a week.

If you elect to go the RN-BSN route they also offer a program one night per week. However, depending on your admission score, you would probably be admitted to ASU before you would one of the Community Colleges due to the waiting lists.

I hope this helps.....

Mary

No, I grew up in AZ, and moved here after graduation. It looks like the admission process has changed quite a bit. It went strictly on GPA when I was there. Our cut-offs were at around 3.5 or higher. It seems to be a little more complicated now, but probably more fair.

That's great information. Thank you.
