Pre-nursing student... What's your job??

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

This summer, after this semester, I'm going to look for a job that will make me feel more confident in a medical type setting- as to better prepare myself for nursing school and eventually becoming an RN. Being a CNA is always a possibility, but the training never works with my schedule of being a fulltime student.

My friend is a unit secretary and just got accepted into nursing school. She said she would never be a CNA because they get the worst work, but she would definitely do anything else in a hospital to get a better idea of what being a nurse is like. She suggested becoming a Unit Secretary.

I really have no experience in the medical field so I'm not sure where to look first.

Anyway, just curious what kind of jobs you guys, as pre-nursing students, have right now? Are they nursing/medical related?

While in nursing school I really don't think I want to work at a hospital (overkill) so I'll probably just keep my 10 hour a week "mall job" for some social interaction.

I'm also going to volunteer at a hospital here, for 4 hours a week for a few months. Another friend did it and said it was just a nice experiene for her. Any hospital volunteers out there?

Specializes in NICU, Level IV.

I currently work full-time as a real estate assistant. I've been working here for 7 years and hope to continue to work here on a part-time basis once I get into Nursing school.

I got my first degree in graphic design back in 98. I have been working for a large ad agency for over seven years now. It was here that I discovered the world of advertising was not for me...and decided to pursue a health care career. I have been taking classes since last Jan 06.

I quit the corporate world last October and have lucked out ever since. My old job has used me on a freelance basis since I quit. The pay is double and the headaches are half, I am my own boss, and make my own schedule. I plan to keep the gig as long as I can...through nursing school and beyond.

I also just started my own business and have just started some self-promo within my home-town. Just got my first call and project last week. Pretty exciting and scary! I want the business, but am so busy with everything else I am not sure I can juggle it all.

Life will seem so easy when all this slows down and I can focus on one thing alone!

Im currently a STNA, ive done private care and worked in assisted living and i think the STNA job is the most hands on and really gives you a good view of all aspects of being a nurse.

Specializes in ICU, Med-Surg, Post-op, Same-Day Surgery.

I am a musician and I also do a LOT of temp work. Music is fun, but doesn't pay so great! Nursing is something that I will love as a career, but it will also provide a little more stability for me!

Hi. For medical I volunteer in a hospice, often working alongside the CNA's bathing and toileting patients. Yes, cleaning poop and vomit is not pleasant but it's not a happy experience for the patient either so I try to be empathetic (not always easy). I'm in nursing school part-time because I need to support myself and need the health insurance so I still have my job as a government chemist--I write human health risk assessments for pesticide chemicals. It is health-related in a bizarre sort of way.

If I were to become a CNA, I would definitely get the experience and I think that is the ideal position to be in going into Nursing. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to make enough money...well, not as much as I do now.

I am currently an Administrative Assistant for a Marketing Team for a Pharmaceutical Company. It is really interesting and actually has helped me in my current class...Microbiology!! They know most of that stuff and had studied it and need to know it for their jobs, so it's neat to be able to talk to them about it!
