Pre-Nursing student (track to NNP)

Published

Dear Allnurses community,

I am a 22 year old father, currently completing my pre-requisites for nursing school. I have the privilege of having OHSU as one of the nursing universities in my state, and plan on attending there. I would like to have feedback from nursing students, and RNs on explaining to me the most beneficial track toward my goal of becoming a neonatal nurse practitioner.

How should I prepare myself during my BSN program?

How should I prepare myself while working as an RN to gain the criteria for APN school?

What criteria is there for APN toward NNP?

For NNPs, what has been your experience through school and on the job as an NNP?

What was your experience sitting for the certification boards?

Thank you all for any and all feedback; it is much appreciated.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

You might want to repost in the NICU forum. You can also PM (when you get 15 posts) to SteveNNP - he is an NNP in New York state I believe.

Specializes in Level II Trauma Center ICU.

Most NNP programs (all that I'm aware of) require 1-2 yrs of practice as a neonatal nurse prior to applying to their program.
